MANUFACTURE OF A DRUM FOR A GAS TURBINE ENGINE
A method for the manufacture of a blisk drum is described. Disc forging for inertia welding together are provided with sacrificial material whose shape and position is selectively provided such that, on completion of the inertia welding process, integral blades can be fashioned from the sacrificial material. Other components such as buckets and balancing lands may also be provided from the sacrificial material.
Method for joining heat transfer plates of a plate heat exchanger
A method for joining heat transfer plates, comprising: applying a melting depressant composition on individual application areas of a first metal sheet, each application area comprising a mid-section and two end-sections; pressing ridges and grooves in the metal sheet, the ridges extending in a direction that extends between the end-sections of the application areas, such that the application areas are located on top of the ridges; bringing the metal sheet into contact with a second, pressed metal sheet, such that contact points are formed where the mid-sections of the application areas re located; heating the sheets until melted metal is formed at the application areas where the melting depressant composition is applied; and allowing the melted metal to solidify such that a joint is obtained at the contact points.
HEAT RADIATION MEMBER
A heat radiation member excellent in electrical insulation and better in thermal conduction is provided. The heat radiation member includes a substrate composed of a composite material containing diamond and a metallic phase, an insulating plate provided on at least a part of front and rear surfaces of the substrate and composed of an aluminum nitride, and a single bonding layer interposed between the substrate and the insulating plate, the heat radiation member having thermal conductivity not lower than 400 W/m.Math.K.
Systems and methods for high strength titanium wire additive manufacturing
A method of titanium wire additive manufacturing is disclosed. The method may comprise mixing a plurality of powdered metals comprising titanium, iron, vanadium, and aluminum to produce a powder blend, sintering the powder blend to form a billet, performing a wire forming operation to produce a worked wire, heat treating the worked wire to produce a heat treaded wire, loading the heat treated wire into a wirefeed additive manufacturing machine, and producing a metallic component from the heat treated wire. The titanium may be a titanium hydride powder.
HDH (HYDRIDE-DEHYDRIDE) PROCESS FOR FABRICATION OF BRAZE ALLOY POWDERS
A method for preparing powders of hard alloys, such as Ti and Ti—Zr alloys, using a hydride-dehydride process, and powders produced by the process, are disclosed. The method can be used to manufacture brazing powders. The method is less hazardous and more cost effective than current methods, such as gas atomization, of preparing such braze materials.
FABRICATION WITH REGULATED GRAIN FORMATION
A method of fabricating of an object includes causing a first heat source to heat a feed material to form a melt pool of the feed material on a surface. The method further includes causing a second heat source to heat the melt pool on the surface to regulate grain formation of the feed material in the melt pool as the melt pool cools and solidifies on the surface to form at least a portion of the object. The method also includes causing the first heat source and the second heat source to move relative to the surface as the melt pool is formed and cooled.
SUPPRESSORS AND THEIR METHODS OF MANUFACTURE
A suppressor having a body and a first connector half coupled to the body, wherein the first connector half includes a first component that includes at least one channel and a first surface; and wherein the body provides a second surface, wherein a gap between the first surface and the second surface defines at least one track; wherein the gun includes a second connector half comprising at least one protrusion, wherein the protrusion and channel have corresponding shapes that allow the protrusion to be inserted through the channel and into alignment with the track, wherein the first component may be rotated with respect to the protrusion and the body to bring the protrusion out of alignment with the channel so that the first and second surfaces clamp the protrusion to thereby secure the first connector half and second connector half with respect to each other.
Method of preparing a surface for diffusion bonding and method of diffusion bonding
A method of preparing a surface for diffusion bonding comprises contacting a binder material with a discontinuous surface comprising surface regions separated by gaps. The binder material is selectively deposited onto the surface regions and has a sufficient viscosity to form a self-supporting layer without flowing into the gaps. The self-supporting layer of binder material comprises a mass density in a range from about 0.001 g/in.sup.2 to about 0.050 g/in.sup.2. A braze powder is distributed over the self-supporting layer of binder material, and a predetermined amount of the braze powder is attached to the binder material. The discontinuous surface is then heated to remove the binder material and adhere the braze powder to the discontinuous surface. Thus, a prewet surface with a braze deposit thereon is formed.
