Methods of forming cutting elements by oxidizing metal in interstitial spaces in polycrystalline material
Methods of forming a cutting element include disposing a volume of polycrystalline material adjacent a liquid electrolytic solution and applying an electrical between the polycrystalline material and a cathode in contact with the liquid electrolytic solution to increase an oxidation state of the metal catalyst material. The polycrystalline material includes interbonded grains of hard material and metal catalyst particles in the interstitial spaces between adjacent grains of hard material. Some methods include forming a barrier over a portion of a surface of a volume of polycrystalline material.
Rotary dresser and manufacturing method therefor
A rotary dresser includes a cored bar, an electroformed layer, and superabrasive grains fixed to an outer circumferential surface of the electroformed layer, and a plurality of island regions in which a plurality of superabrasive grains is gathered is provided at certain intervals. Since a plurality of the island regions in which a plurality of the superabrasive grains is gathered is provided at certain intervals, the same degree of dressing accuracy can be obtained as in a case in which expensive large superabrasive grains are fixed at a low density using cheap and small superabrasive grains, it is possible to decrease the contact area of a single superabrasive grain, and favorable cutting quality can be obtained.
Outer blade cutting wheel and making method
In an outer blade cutting wheel comprising an annular thin disc base of cemented carbide having an outer diameter of 80-200 mm, an inner diameter of 30-80 mm, and a thickness of 0.1-1.0 mm, and a blade section disposed on an outer periphery of the base, the blade section comprises diamond grains and/or CBN grains bound with a metal bond having a Young's modulus of 0.7-4.0×10.sup.11 Pa and has a thickness which is greater than the thickness of the base by at least 0.01 mm. The outer blade cutting wheel is capable of cutting a workpiece at a high accuracy and a reduced allowance, improves machining yields, and reduces machining costs.
ABRASIVE ARTICLES INCLUDING A BLEND OF ABRASIVE PARTICLES AND METHOD OF FORMING AND USING THE SAME
An abrasive article including a substrate; and an abrasive layer overlying the substrate, where the abrasive layer includes a blend of abrasive particles including a first type of abrasive particle comprising a polycrystalline material and having a first average friability F.sub.1, and a second type of abrasive particle comprising a polycrystalline material and having a second average friability, F.sub.2, where the blend comprises an average friability difference, ΔF=|F.sub.1−F.sub.2|, within a range of at least 0.5% to not greater than 80%.
Annular grindstone
An annular grindstone includes a grindstone portion including a binding material, and abrasive grains which are dispersed into the binding material to be fixed, in which the binding material contains a nickel-iron alloy. Preferably, a contained ratio of iron in the nickel-iron alloy is in a range of 5 wt % or more to less than 60 wt %. More preferably, a contained ratio of iron in the nickel-iron alloy is in a range of 20 wt % or more to 50 wt % or less. Preferably, the annular grindstone includes the grindstone portion only. In addition, the annular grindstone further includes an annular base including a grip portion, in which the grindstone portion is exposed at an outer peripheral edge of the annular base.
Diamond tool and method for producing a diamond tool
A method for producing a tool with a diamond-studded tool head includes the steps of providing a tool shank and fixing a support element to a free end of the tool shank. The method further includes the steps of applying a layer of material interspersed with diamonds at least in sections to the support element and to a section of the tool shank adjoining the support element, and at least partially removing the support element, so that the layer of material interspersed with diamonds forms a tool head which in cross-section has the form of a circular ring and has a front-side recess.
Diamond tool and method for producing a diamond tool
A diamond tool comprising a tool shank and a tool head, which is fixed on the tool shank and which is formed by a layer of material interspersed with diamonds at least in sections, the layer of material interspersed with diamonds at least in sections being directly integrally bonded to the tool shank by an electroplating deposition process and the tool head having a recess on the front side, so that in cross-section the tool head has the form of a circular ring in the area of the free end, the tool head forming a hollow milling cutter and a wall forming the hollow milling cutter and having the form of a circular ring consisting only of a nickel-diamond material that is grown by electroplating.
Methods of forming a liquid metal embrittlement resistant superabrasive compact, and superabrasive compacts and apparatuses using the same
Embodiments of the invention relate to liquid metal embrittlement (“LME”)-resistant superabrasive compacts, methods of making the same, and drill bits incorporating the same. The LME-resistant superabrasive compacts include a braze-resistant region on one or more portions of a substrate expected to be under residual tensile stress and susceptible to LME during brazing.
POLISHING PAD CONDITIONER AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF
The present invention relates to a polishing pad conditioner and a manufacturing method thereof. The polishing pad conditioner includes a substrate, an abrasive layer and a protective layer. The abrasive layer covers the surface of the substrate. The abrasive layer includes a bonding layer and a plurality of abrasive particles embedded in the bonding layer. Each of the abrasive particles has a protrusion exposed out of the bonding layer, and the protrusion is insulated. The protective layer covers the surface of the bonding layer, and the protrusion is exposed out of the protective layer. The polishing pad conditioner of the present invention can protect the bonding layer from being damaged by abrasion and hold the abrasive particles, avoid the abrasive particles from falling off or out of position, and maintain the polishing effect and service life of the polishing pad conditioner.
