A polymer filter assembly through which flowable material from a supply is directed for processing before passing to a die assembly through which the flowable material is delivered to form a sheet layer. The polymer filter assembly has a polymer filter frame that supports processing components for the flowable material and a support assembly for the polymer filter frame. The support assembly includes components cooperating between the polymer filter frame and a base upon which the polymer filter frame is supported to allow controlled relative vertical movement between the polymer filter frame and base to thereby permit controlled alignment between the polymer filter frame and at least one of: a) an upstream component that delivers flowable material from the supply; and b) the die assembly.

For this purpose it is proposed that the cleaning backflushing in the backflushing cleaning station takes place during the rotation of the screening wheel (1), wherein an open-loop or closed-loop control device (7) assigned to the cleaning agent drive (9) is used to set the amount of cleaning agent and/or the pressure of the cleaning agent and/or the flow rate of the cleaning agent in dependence on the rotational speed of the screening wheel (1) and/or in dependence on a differential pressure prevailing at the screening inserts (2) located in the melt channel (4) and the effective opening of the slot die normal to the radial is less than the distance covered by the screening wheel (1) during a driving step.

A filter candle to separate contaminants from a plastic melt is disclosed. The filter candle has a filter element through which a melt flow is directed to retain contaminants contained in the melt flow, and a supporting body to support the filter element. The supporting body is a hollow body having multiple passages for the melt flow. At least one additional supporting body is on the side of said filter element that faces away from the supporting body. The additional supporting body acts on surface regions of the filter element and/or accommodates them such that the filter element can be backwashable.
