FIBER-REINFORCED STRUCTURES
20170341318 · 2017-11-30 · ·

A method for manufacturing a fiber reinforced structure includes the following. A mandrel of a first material comprises a hollow interior and an aperture that allows a fluid to enter the interior. A layer of a second material provided on the mandrel includes an uncured resin and fibers. The mandrel and the layer are placed in a mold cavity formed by a mold. A pressurized fluid is introduced into the interior of the mandrel via the aperture to generate a force acting to expand the mandrel outward. The mandrel is heated so that it becomes deformable and expand outward to press the layer against the mold. The layer is heated so that it cures. The mandrel is then heated to a temperature above its melting point of the first material so that it melts, after which it is removed.

EXPANSION JOINT SEALS AND METHODS FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME
20170328016 · 2017-11-16 · ·

An expansion joint seal includes a seal body and a plurality of seal caps, wherein the seal body is made of a material having a first hardness, and the seal caps are made of a material having a second hardness that is greater than the first hardness. The seal body includes a plurality of walls that form hollow cells. The seal body includes a plurality of traffic bearing surfaces that are separated from one another by grooves and are thereby discontinuous relative to one another. The hollow cells and the grooves allow the seal body to expand and contract as an expansion joint increases and decreases in size due to thermal and/or load variations. The seal caps cover the traffic bearing surfaces of the seal body, such that each of the traffic bearing surfaces of the seal body is covered by a separate one of the seal caps.

Cold runner block

The invention relates to a cold runner block in a vertically operating injection molding machine for processing elastomer materials with an upper fixed molding platen and a molding platen arranged thereunder which is movable relative to the fixed molding platen, between which a molding tool having a plurality of mold cavities is arranged and wherein the cold runner block is arranged between the fixed molding platen and the molding tool, the cold runner block containing a distribution plate having the cold runners and containing a nozzle plate with nozzles each assigned to one of the plurality of mold cavities, which is characterized in that the distribution plate formed from a plurality of distribution strips (10-40) is arranged on a retaining plate (2), which can be fastened to the fixed, feed-side molding platen in such a way that each distribution strip (10-40) is connected by means of two bolts (3) to the retaining plate (2) in that the head (5) of each bolt (3) facing away from the distribution strip (10-40) forms a retaining element which is T-shaped in section, the retaining element being displaceably guided in the direction transverse to the distribution strip's longitudinal axis in guide rails (50) which are formed in the retaining plate (2) and are designed in section to complement the bolt head (5).

MOLDING METHOD AND MOLDING DIE FOR MOLDED ARTICLE

The purpose of the present invention is to make it possible to shorten the time required for a burr removal step and make it difficult for the burrs to detach from a sheet member in a step for removing the burrs together with the sheet member. For removal, by making the burrs to adhere to a pliable sheet member such as paper or nonwoven fabric that has been incorporated beforehand in the molding die and stripping the sheet member from the molding die, the burrs are removed together with the sheet member. The present invention is characterized in that in order to make it difficult for the burrs to detach from the sheet member during the stripping, a radiused shape with an arc-shaped cross-section is formed by the molding die on the areas surrounding the sections where the burrs adhere to the sheet member.

Modular travel warning strip system and methods

A modular highway warning strip system which comprises a modular warning strip segment having first and second ends, a length extending between the first and second ends, two opposing lengthwise sides, a width extending between the opposing lengthwise sides of the segment, top and bottom surfaces, and a thickness. Each of the first and second ends comprise at least one male protrusion and at least one female receptacle, wherein the at least one male protrusion is configured to engage the at least one female receptacle for joining a plurality of the segments together end-to-end. A segmented metallic plate is disposed between upper and lower rubber layers, the segmented plate comprising a plurality of segments separated by slits comprising living hinges.

METHOD FOR MAKING A GAS-TIGHT CONTAINER IN ELASTOMERIC MATERIAL

A method for making a gas-tight container (1) in elastomeric material comprises: providing two or more separate elastomeric portions (2, 3), cleaning and/or roughening the gluing surfaces (6) of the gluing edges (5), applying an adhesive (7) onto the previously cleaned, degreased and/or roughened gluing surfaces (6), assembling the portions (2, 3) to form the container (1) and inserting between the gluing surfaces (6) a raw elastomeric tape (8) not yet cured, applying a cold pressure on the overlapped gluing edges (5), heating the overlapped gluing edges (5) to thermally activate the curing of the raw tape (8), cooling the gluing areas.

Inflatable bladders for use in footwear and other articles of manufacture

The present invention is a method for manufacturing inflatable bladders for use in articles of manufacture. The method includes the steps of providing a first polymer film, applying a curable release coating to the polymer film in a pattern that corresponds to the configuration of the inflatable bladder, curing the release coating to the first polymer film, providing a second polymer film with the first polymer film to form a layered element such that the release coating is disposed between the polymer films, positioning the layered element between two plies of material, applying heat and pressure to adhere the polymer films together except in the area where the release coating has been applied to form an inflatable compartment surrounded by a sealed perimeter, and removing the plies of material from the adhered first and second polymer films.
