A fabric knitted with the hydrophobic fibers has a self-cleaning ability.
Method for producing photochromic contact lenses
The invention provides a method for producing photochromic silicone hydrogel (SiHy) contact lenses based on thermal cast-molding technology in a relatively efficient and consistent manner. The method is characterized by selecting a high radical-reactive hydrophilic acrylic monomer while eliminating any low radical-reactive hydrophilic N-vinyl amide monomer in a lens formulation (polymerizable composition), by selecting a weight ratio of low-radical-reactive hydrophilic N-vinyl amide monomer to a high radical-reactive hydrophilic acrylic monomer in a lens formulation if the low radical-reactive hydrophilic N-vinyl amide monomer is needed, and/or by using a relatively high temperature thermal initiator in a lens formulation, to control the lens properties (e.g., water content, elastic modulus, etc.) and lens processability (capability of dry-delensing from molds) of thermally cast-molded SiHy contact lenses while minimizing loss in photochromic ability of resultant SiHy contact lenses.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING A 3D-PRINTED TISSUE SUBSTITUTE
A method for producing a 3D-printed tissue substitute is disclosed, utilizing a 3D printing device including a tank including a yield stress fluid in which the material is printed, the printing material delivered by the cartridge includes polyvinyl alcohol and gelatin, the method including a step following which, after printing the material in the yield stress fluid, a printed intermediate device is solidified in the yield stress fluid by lowering the temperature of the tank. The intermediate device is removed from the tank, rinsed and dried in order to obtain the tissue substitute.
Large scale synthesis of resorcinol-formaldehyde aerogel
A product includes an aerogel having a single bulk structure, the single bulk structure having at least one dimension greater than 10 millimeters. The single bulk structure includes a plurality of pores, where each pore has a largest diameter defined as a greatest distance between pore walls of the respective pore. In addition, an average of the largest diameters of a majority of the pores is within a specified range, and the plurality of pores are distributed substantially homogenously throughout the single bulk structure.
PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING A COMPOSITE BLADE FOR AN AIRCRAFT ENGINE

The blade includes an airfoil having a pressure side and a suction side which extend from a leading edge to a trailing edge of the airfoil. The blade further includes a metal sheath that extends along the leading edge of the airfoil. The process includes the steps of: a) placing a preform, made by three-dimensionally weaving fibers, in a mold, a polymerizable adhesive being inserted between the sheath and the edge of the preform; and b) injecting polymerizable resin into the mold to impregnate the preform so as to form the airfoil after solidifying, wherein the resin is injected within a time interval during which the adhesive reaches a freezing point.
