Method and stamp for repeatable image correlation micro patterning and resulting specimen produced therefrom

A method and surface micro patterned stamp for patterning image correlation test specimens is disclosed. The stamp may be formed and applied to the surface of structural components and laboratory test specimens in a repeatable fashion while reducing requisite infrastructure and time. The resulting test specimen incorporating the surface micro stamped pattern is also disclosed.

A method for microassembly of heterogeneous materials comprises contacting a stamp with an ink disposed on a donor substrate to form an inked stamp, where the ink is reversibly bound to the stamp. The inked stamp is stamped onto a receiving substrate or onto an object on the receiving substrate, and the stamp is removed, thereby transferring the ink to the receiving substrate. The ink and the receiving substrate or the ink and the object are thermally joined, thereby forming a microassembly of heterogeneous materials. The ink may comprise a first material and the receiving substrate or the object may comprise a second material different from the first material.

Multi-color hot stamp printing system

A method includes moving a multi-color ribbon over a target object. The multi-color ribbon has a lower layer and an upper layer of inks or pigments. The method also includes applying heat and pressure onto the multi-color ribbon to transfer the overlying layers of the inks or pigments to the target object, and removing at least a portion of the lower layer of the ink or pigment that was transferred to the target object to reveal at least a portion of the upper layer of the ink or pigment that were transferred to the target object.
