A wheel assembly includes a rigid wheel and an airless flexible tire with certain performance characteristics of a pneumatic tire. The rigid wheel includes a central portion and a plurality of circumferentially spaced mounting elements removably attached to a radially outer margin of the central portion. The tire is mounted on the wheel and engages the mounting elements such that portions of the tire not engaging the mounting elements are separated radially from the wheel by a space. The tire is configured such that portions of the tire not engaging the mounting elements flex inwardly toward the wheel when subject to ground engaging pressure, thereby minimizing ground penetration and soil disruption. The tire may include one or more tension elements embedded in the tire to increase the tire's strength and resilience.

The present invention relates to a wheel hub assembly for a vehicle which is suitable for being driven by a drive shaft. The wheel hub assembly includes a wheel engaging hub and a shaft engaging hub including internal splines configured for engagement with complementary external splines on the drive shaft. The shaft engaging hub is engageable with the wheel engaging hub by at least one or more axially extending threaded engaging formations in which the wheel hub assembly further includes an engaging arrangement configured for further facilitating engagement of the wheel engaging hub with the shaft engaging hub. The engaging arrangement includes a plurality of engaging formations extending in a radial direction between the wheel engaging hub and the shaft engaging hub, the plurality of engaging formations are engageable in use with complementary engaging formations to facilitate transfer of torque between the wheel engaging hub and the shaft engaging hub.

Adjacent of the spokes define an opening therebetween and are interconnected by a web circumscribing the opening. A cover defines a connector that is disposed over the spider concealing a portion of the spider and opening circumscribed by the web. The web defines a receptor configured to engage the connector thereby retaining the cover to the spider.

A spoke has a longitudinal axis and an external spoke surface that that overlaps the internal cavity in an overlap region, and a pre-formed lateral spoke surface. The connecting element is crimped to create a crimped joinder with the spoke such that the connector surface is pressed and plastically deformed to displace the internal cavity toward the spoke surface in the overlap region to cause a lateral connector surface to laterally overlap the lateral spoke surface to create an overlie engagement and/or to increase a lateral overlap between a lateral connector surface and the lateral spoke surface in an overlie engagement. The overlie engagement supports spoke tensile load.
