AUTOMATIC AIRCRAFT POWERPLANT CONTROL
An automatic aircraft powerplant control system includes a throttle servo for adjusting a throttle valve via a throttle control linkage. A throttle control lever provides a user input to the throttle servo, and a throttle controller controls the throttle servo for controlling a throttle valve. A propeller servo may be provided for adjusting a propeller governor setting of an engine. A propeller control lever provides a user input to the propeller servo, and a propeller controller controls the propeller servo. A full-authority digital engine control (FADEC) controller is used to automatically control mixing of fuel and air via a fuel-air mixture device. The FADEC controller may be used to automatically provide propeller control.
Phonic wheel and related system and method
A phonic wheel having a body and a tooth is disclosed. An embodiment of the phonic wheel includes a body that is configured to rotate about a rotation axis. The tooth is attached to the body. The tooth has a first axial end relative to the rotation axis, a second axial end opposite the first axial end, and a mid portion extending between the first and second axial ends. The mid portion has a substantially axially uniform height from the body. The first axial end has a greater height from the body than the height of the mid portion.

AERIALLY DISTRIBUTABLE COMMUNICATIONS DEVICE
The present invention relates to an aerially distributable communications device (ACCD) including one or more gyrochutes and communications module configured for wireless communication with external communication nodes. The communications module can be configured for mesh network type communication with similar aerially distributable communications device, or as a gateway type communications device to a wide area network such as a satellite network. The ACCD is for deployment in remote areas and/or areas where normal communications networks are down, such as disaster areas. The ACCD can be deployed from an aircraft or a spacecraft. The ACCD can further be configured with emergency equipment such as water purification equipment, power charging equipment, or the like.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETECTING AND MITIGATING A PROPELLER FAILURE CONDITION
There is provided a method and a system for detecting and mitigating a propeller failure condition. An actual value of a rotational speed of the propeller and/or of a pitch angle of blades of the propeller is obtained. In response to determining that the speed is below a reference rotational speed for the propeller and/or determining that the pitch angle is above a pitch angle threshold, an actuator operatively connected to the blades is commanded to decrease the pitch angle to increase the speed towards the reference speed. After commanding of the actuator to decrease the pitch angle, a subsequent value of the speed and/or a subsequent value of the pitch angle is obtained. The actuator is commanded to hold the pitch angle in response to determining that the speed has failed to increase towards the reference speed and/or determining that the pitch angle has failed to decrease.
Electric drive system line replaceable unit with integrated collective actuation
One embodiment is an electric drive system for an aircraft comprising a plurality of redundant motors, wherein power generated by the plurality of motors is used to drive a rotor system comprising a rotor shaft having a plurality of rotor blades connected thereto; a gear box associated with the plurality of redundant motors; a collective actuator for controlling a collective pitch of the rotor blades connected to the rotor shaft; and at least one structural element for retaining the redundant motors, the gear box, and the collective actuator together as a single integrated unit.
AIRCRAFT ELECTRIC PROPULSION SYSTEM CONTROL METHOD
A method of controlling an electric propulsion system of an aircraft. The propulsion system comprising an electric motor configured to drive a variable pitch propulsor. The method comprises determining a commanded thrust setting; determining one or more flight parameters; determining either a corresponding rotor governor speed and motor torque set-point, or a corresponding motor speed and rotor pitch angle set point, which provides the commanded thrust setting at the determined flight parameter having a maximum propulsion system efficiency; and controlling the rotor governor and electric motor in accordance with the determined respective set-points.
