According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a block of packaged envelopes, comprising: a plurality of envelopes arranged in series, facing one another; a first paper-based rigid sheet at a first end of the series; a second paper-based rigid sheet at a second, opposite end of the series; the plurality of envelopes being located in-between the first and second paper-based rigid sheets; and a binder that extends around the paper-based rigid sheets and the plurality of envelopes located in-between the sheets, to bind the plurality of envelopes in series arrangement, and to form the block of packaged envelopes.

Presently disclosed embodiments are directed to systems and methods for bundling smaller stacks of bank notes into larger sized bundles that are efficient for transportation. The system may include an in-line bundler disposed along pockets of a currency processor for receiving stacks of bank notes directly from the pocket. That way, the smaller stacks of bank notes do not have to be removed from the currency processor and transported to a separate bundler machine. Instead, the currency processor features a desired number of bundler machines disposed in-line with the corresponding pockets where the bank notes are initially received and stacked. This arrangement may enable efficient stacking and bundling of bank notes sorted via the currency processor.

A banknote bundling apparatus includes a hopper that receives banknotes, a recognition unit that recognizes a banknote kind of the banknotes received by the hopper, a stacking unit in which bundling-object-banknotes are stacked based on the banknote kind recognized by the recognition unit, a bundling unit that forms a banknote bundle by bundling with a bundling tape the bundling-object-banknotes stacked in the stacking unit when the bundling-object-banknotes stacked in the stacking unit reaches a predetermined number, and a printing unit that prints information on the bundling tape to be used by the bundling unit.

A banknote bundling apparatus includes a hopper that receives banknotes, a recognition unit that recognizes a banknote kind of the banknotes received by the hopper, a stacking unit in which bundling-object-banknotes are stacked based on the banknote kind recognized by the recognition unit, a bundling unit that forms a banknote bundle by bundling with a bundling tape the bundling-object-banknotes stacked in the stacking unit when the bundling-object-banknotes stacked in the stacking unit reaches a predetermined number, and a printing unit that prints information on the bundling tape to be used by the bundling unit.

According to one embodiment, a strapping apparatus includes a setting device, a determination device, a strap band supply device, an acquisition device, a color decision device, and a warning presentation device. The setting device sets a denomination of paper sheets to be strapped. The determination device determines a color of a strap band to strap a bundle of the paper sheets, based on the denomination. The strap band supply device supplies strap bands from a first strap band reel previously stored. The acquisition device acquires an image of the first strap band reel. The color decision device decides a color of the first strap band reel, based on the image. The warning presentation device presents a warning if the color of the first strap band reel is different from the color determined by the determination device.

According to one embodiment, a strapping apparatus includes a setting device, a determination device, a strap band supply device, an acquisition device, a color decision device, and a warning presentation device. The setting device sets a denomination of paper sheets to be strapped. The determination device determines a color of a strap band to strap a bundle of the paper sheets, based on the denomination. The strap band supply device supplies strap bands from a first strap band reel previously stored. The acquisition device acquires an image of the first strap band reel. The color decision device decides a color of the first strap band reel, based on the image. The warning presentation device presents a warning if the color of the first strap band reel is different from the color determined by the determination device.

A paper sheet handling apparatus (banknote handling apparatus 100) includes: a housing 12; a transport path forming member 711 disposed inside the housing and configured to form a transport path that transports paper sheets while sandwiching each paper sheet in a direction of the thickness of the paper sheet; and a handing unit (non-bundling stacker module 54) disposed at a predetermined position inside the housing. When jamming of paper sheets occurs in the middle of the transport path, the transport path forming member is displaced so as to open the transport path, in a state where the inside of the housing is opened by an opening and closing unit being opened.
