Closure latching system

An easy-opening end closure that may also be reclosed, suitable for joining to a container. A cover panel is bonded around its perimeter to an end panel with a rotatable lever interposed between them. To open the closure, a user applies force to the rotating lever to move it axially around an attachment point and progressively debond the seal perimeter. In this process, latching mechanisms ensure uni-directional movement of the lever relative to the shutter and joining of the two components at the end of the rotational sweep.

End closure with venting

A cover panel is bonded around its perimeter to an end panel with a rotatable lever interposed between them. To open the closure, a user applies force to the rotating lever to move it axially around an attachment point and thereby progressively debonding a substantial portion of the bond perimeter. The closure incorporates means for equilibrating pressure in the internal headspace of the container with the outside ambient for improved pouring.

Closure debonding system

A cover panel is bonded around its perimeter to an end panel with a rotatable lever interposed between them. To open the closure, a user applies force to the rotating lever to move it axially around an attachment point thereby engaging integrated mechanisms to progressively debond segments of the perimeter seal.

A can end (10) has a curl (14) extending circumferentially about a longitudinal axis (50). A circumferential wall (15) extends downwardly. A strengthening member (16) is joined to lower segment of the circumferential wall (15). A center panel (12) extends radially inwardly from the circumferential strengthening member (16). A rivet (38) attaches a tab (28) to the center panel (12). A cover is attached to the tab (28) and is rotation therewith. A frangible score (24) in the center panel (12) is breakable to form a pour opening (27) in the center panel (12). The cover is rotatable to overlay the pour opening (27) and effectively reclose the pour opening (27) in a reclosed condition of the can end (10).

Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to a lid for a container. In one embodiment, the lid of the container includes a lid panel with a break-open region at least partially surrounded by a predetermined breaking line, and having a fastening member arranged on the lid panel. The lid further including a lever tab rotatably attached to the fastening member for breaking open the break-open region along the predetermined breaking line toward an underside of the lid panel and thereby providing a removal opening in the lid panel. In some embodiments, the lever tab includes a closure element attached to the lever tab, the closure element being adapted to be mountable to an upper side of the lid panel and sealingly surrounding the removal opening for closing the removal opening; and a locking element for locking the closure element when the removal opening is closed by the closure element.

The invention relates to a tear-off lid made of metal sheet which has a central lid plane and, within that, a breakout portion, as well as a grip tab made of metal sheet that can be swiveled about a swivel axis extending at least approximately perpendicular to the lid plane and that has an opener portion on one side of the swivel axis and a grip portion on the opposing side of the swivel axis. The grip portion is shaped such that, upon opening the breakout portion, it can be swiveled over an opening created thereby and enclosed by an outer contour and can tightly seal the opening. The metal sheet that forms the grip portion has apertures, and an elastomer seal is provided on a bottom side of the grip portion facing toward the lid plane that is connected in a form-fitting manner to the grip portion and extends through the apertures.

A reclosable beverage can end (10) has a circumferential curl (14) centered about a center longitudinal axis (50). A circumferential wall (15) extends downwardly from the curl (14) and inwardly towards the longitudinal axis (50). A center panel (12) is produced from a metallic material and centered about the longitudinal axis (50). The center panel (12) has a public side (34) and an opposing product side (35). A tab (26) is mounted to the public side (34) of the center panel (12). A pour opening (20) is formed by an aperture in the center panel (12) and sealed by the tab (26). The pour opening (20) is at least partially defined by a pour opening curl (22) of the metallic material of the center panel (12).
