The pressing portion is movable between a first position and a second position via a third position. The pressing portion in the first position faces the first roller within a conveying region defined in the casing. The pressing portion in the second position is separated from the first roller farther than in the first position. The third position is located between the first position and the second position. The first roller is exposed to the conveying region. The first spring urges the pressing portion toward the first roller when the pressing portion is disposed between the first position and the second position. The second spring urges the pressing portion toward the first roller when the pressing portion is disposed between the second position and the third position.

Trading card inventory management systems and related methods of use are described. These systems may include singulators, card translocators that pass cards from a receiver to storage, and back to the receiver, card chutes, and card guides. A card box system of storage and translocation is also described.

An image reading apparatus includes a feed roller configured to feed paper toward a reading section, and a medium detection section provided along a transport path between the feed roller and the reading section and configured to include a transmitting portion configured to output an output value equivalent to a magnitude of an ultrasonic wave, and determines whether the transport of the paper is to be continued or to be brought to a halt on the basis of a lower limit value and an upper limit value for the output value, which are set in accordance with the kind of the paper. A sheet handling apparatus (e.g., banknote insertion/discharge mechanism 20) includes a transport unit (e.g., first transport unit 30) configured to transport a sheet (e.g., banknote) in a first transport path 30a; and driving units 36m and 38m configured to move, along the width direction of the first transport path 30a, at least portions of guiding members 36 and 38 forming edges of the first transport path 30a.

User labor relating to determining on an alignment condition is reduced and a stable conveying operation is realized by aligning a sheet bundle also when a sheet bundle is added. A sheet bundle composed of multiple sheet materials is placed on a loading platform. An encoder pulse unit detects the amount of the sheet bundle placed on the loading platform based on the opening amount of a pressure plate. A control unit determines on an alignment condition according to the amount of the sheet bundle. Rotating members align the sheet bundle in accordance with the alignment condition. When it is determined that another sheet bundle has been added to the loading platform, the control unit updates the alignment condition according to the total amount of the other sheet bundle and the sheet bundle remaining on the loading platform.

A medium feeder includes a feed roller that feeds a medium loaded on a medium loading section; a transport roller disposed downstream relative to the feed roller; a first driving source that drives at least the feed roller; a second driving source that drives at least the transport roller; and a housing that houses the feed roller, the transport roller, the first driving source, and the second driving source, wherein the housing includes a lower unit that constitutes a lower part of the housing, and an upper unit openable relative to the lower unit, and the first driving source and the second driving source are disposed on both sides relative to a center part of the lower unit in a width direction perpendicular to a medium transportation direction.

An image forming apparatus includes a first casing, a pivotable second casing, a pivotable document cover, and a lock mechanism including a movable hook and a fixed hook. The second casing has a document support surface. When the second casing is at a first position in which the second casing covers an upper surface of the first casing, and the document cover is at a fourth position in which the document cover reveals the document support surface, the movable hook is engaged with the fixed hook. When the second casing is at the first position, and the document cover is at a third position in which the document cover covers the document support surface, the movable hook is disengaged from the fixed hook.

A medium feeding device includes an imaging unit which images a medium tip end portion from a position of facing a face of the medium on a downstream side of a nipping position of the medium using a feeding unit and a separating unit; and a determining unit which determines whether or not there is transport disorder by evaluating a state of a boundary between a path member which forms a medium transport path and a medium tip end from image data obtained by the imaging unit, in which the determining unit sets a rectangular determining region including at least a part of the boundary with respect to the image data, and determines whether or not there is transport disorder based on a length of a boundary in the determining region.

A paper sheet feeding apparatus includes an inserting unit in which a paper sheet is inserted, a pick-up roller for picking up a paper sheet inserted in the inserting unit, a rotating shaft for rotating the pick-up roller, a detecting member that is supported by the rotating shaft so as to be able to rotate around the rotating shaft and is rotated by a bundling member that bundles paper sheets together, and a first detecting unit that detects rotation of the detecting member.

An image reading apparatus includes a feeding roller that includes a first roller and a second roller provided at an interval in a width direction intersecting a medium feeding direction, and feeds a sheet from a placing section; and a skew detection section that detects skew of the sheet fed from the feeding roller. Skew is corrected by giving a difference between a rotation speed of the first roller and a rotation speed of the second roller with respect to at least one of the relevant sheet detected by the skew detection section and subsequent sheets fed following the relevant sheet based on a skew amount in the sheet.
