The support layer is placed on top of the base pad assembly layer and the support layer engages and is held in place by the alignment features of the plurality of base pads. In one or more arrangements, the upper pad has an upper surface and a lower surface, with the lower surface also having an alignment feature. When the upper pad is placed on top of the support layer, the alignment feature of the upper pad engages and is held in place by the support layer.

When the outrigger is pulled in, for example overnight or during travel, the outrigger pad holder (and outrigger pad held therein) is pulled into the body of the vehicle.

The outrigger pad hoist apparatus includes a winch mechanism, a chain, and an outrigger pad holder coupled to the chain. The outrigger pad holder moves along the frame via movement of the chain by the winch mechanism. Outrigger pads may be placed on the outrigger pad holder. The outrigger pads may be moved to a lower position for easier removal by operating the winch mechanism. Mobile cranes having the outrigger pad hoist and methods of operation and manufacture are also provided.

The guy wires are preferably secured to the extendable and retractable tower at first and second connecting positions that are displaced from one another about an outer perimeter. Methods of deploying the mobile tower are also disclosed.
