METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TRIMMING EDGES OF GLASS SUBSTRATES DURING INLINE PROCESSING
A method of separating an edge portion from a glass substrate includes applying a scoring tool of a scoring apparatus to a glass substrate to cause the scoring tool to score the glass substrate along a score line as the glass substrate moves relative to the scoring apparatus and applying a breaker bar of a breaker apparatus to the glass substrate as the glass substrate moves relative to the breaker bar to separate an edge portion from the glass substrate along the score line.

METHOD FOR FORMING A GLASS PREFORM
A method of forming a glass preform of predetermined length comprises providing a length of glass material to be separated to form a preform length and a remaining length; forming a notch in the glass material; inducing a tensile stress in excess of the tensile strength of the glass in an area adjacent to the notch; and separating the preform length from the remaining length at the notch.
Laser processing method and laser processing apparatus
A laser beam machining method and a laser beam machining device capable of cutting a work without producing a fusing and a cracking out of a predetermined cutting line on the surface of the work, wherein a pulse laser beam is radiated on the predetermined cut line on the surface of the work under the conditions causing a multiple photon absorption and with a condensed point aligned to the inside of the work, and a modified area is formed inside the work along the predetermined determined cut line by moving the condensed point along the predetermined cut line, whereby the work can be cut with a rather small force by cracking the work along the predetermined cut line starting from the modified area and, because the pulse laser beam radiated is not almost absorbed onto the surface of the work, the surface is not fused even if the modified area is formed.
Methods and apparatus for fabricating glass ribbon of varying widths
Methods and apparatus provide for sourcing a glass web, the glass web having a length and a width transverse to the length; continuously moving the glass web from the source to a destination in a transport direction along the length of the glass web; and cutting the glass web at a cutting zone into at least first and second glass ribbons as the glass web is moved from the source to the destination, the first glass ribbon having a first width and the second glass ribbon having a second width, where the first and second widths are not equal.
Scribing wheel, method for manufacturing the scribing wheel, and scribing method
A scribing wheel for scribing a brittle material-made substrate. A disc-shaped scribing-wheel base material in use is so designed that a mid-portion of a disc periphery has the largest diameter. A diamond film is formed on the periphery by a CVD method. The periphery is ground in the middle so that a plane including a circle defined by ridge line becomes perpendicular to the central axis of the scribing wheel.
MECHANICALLY FORMING CRACK INITIATION DEFECTS IN THIN GLASS SUBSTRATES USING AN ABRASIVE SURFACE
A method for forming an initiation defect in a glass substrate to facilitate separating the glass substrate into a plurality of substrates is provided. The method includes providing the glass substrate and contacting a broad surface of the glass substrate with an abrasive surface thereby forming a field of initiation defects in the broad surface of the glass substrate. The field of initiation defects has a width of at least about three millimetres between outermost initiation defects. At least one initiation defect is heated with a laser source. The at least one initiation defect is cooled with a cooling fluid such that a crack initiates from the at least one initiation defect, the crack extending through a thickness of the glass substrate and propagating across the glass substrate to separate the glass substrate into the plurality of substrates.
A device for cutting plates
The present invention concerns a device (1) for cutting a plate (70) of a pre-determined thickness, preferably a glass plate. The device foresees: —A frame (10, 31); —A support device (12, 20) for a cutting utensil connected to the frame. In accordance with the invention, the support device (12, 20) is mobile according to an extraction/retraction motion with respect to the frame (10). Further, a hinged lever system (32, 33, 34) is further foreseen, having a feeler element (50), said hinged lever system being kinematically coupable with said support device (12, 20) in such a way as to bind it in a pre-determined initial position with respect to the frame and so that, when said feeler element is pressed against a surface (70), an operation of the hinged lever system is determined which conducts the support device, starting from said initial position, to an extraction motion.

METHOD FOR PRODUCING A COMPOSITE PANE HAVING A CORROSION-PROTECTED FUNCTIONAL COATING
Methods and devices for producing a composite pane having a functional coating are presented. The functional coating is applied to part of a surface of a base pane, and a first pane is cut out from the base pane while introducing a frame-shaped peripheral coating-free region into the functional coating having an inner region that is not adjacent a side edge of the first pane. The surface of the first pane with the functional coating is then bonded via a thermoplastic intermediate layer to a surface of a second pane.
