CONTACT JOULE HEATING FOR SINTERING HIGH TEMPERATURE COATINGS
A method for forming a high temperature coating includes forming a pre-sintered ceramic coating on a ceramic composite substrate. The pre-sintered ceramic coating includes a plurality of ceramic particles. The method further includes sintering at least a portion of the pre-sintered ceramic coating by heating the portion of the pre-sintered ceramic coating to a sintering temperature of the plurality of ceramic particles using joule heating. The sintering temperature is greater than about 1000 degrees Celsius (° C.).
NON-CONTACT RADIATIVE HEATING FOR SINTERING HIGH TEMPERATURE COATINGS
A method for forming a high temperature coating includes forming a pre-sintered ceramic coating on a ceramic composite substrate. The pre-sintered ceramic coating comprises a plurality of ceramic particles. The method further includes sintering at least a portion of the pre-sintered ceramic coating by heating the portion of the pre-sintered ceramic coating to a sintering temperature of the pre-sintered ceramic coating using one or more non-contact radiative heating elements. The sintering temperature is greater than about 1000 degrees Celsius (° C.).

Microwave assisted and low-temperature fabrication of nanowire arrays on scalable 2D and 3D substrates
A method of making a titanium dioxide nanowire array includes contacting a substrate with a solvent comprising a titanium (III) precursor, an acid, and an oxidant while microwave heating the solvent, thereby forming a hydrogen titanate H2Ti2O5.H2O nanowire array. The hydrogen titanate nanowire array is annealed to form a titanium dioxide nanowire array. The substrate is seeded with titanium dioxide before starting the hydrothermal synthesis of the hydrogen titanate nanowire array. The titanium dioxide nanowire array is loaded with a platinum group metal to form an exhaust gas catalyst. The titanium dioxide nanowire array can be used to catalyze oxidation of combustion exhaust.

A blade outer air seal has at least one internal surface and a layer atop the at least one internal surface. The layer has: a matrix comprising at least one of hafnium silicate (HfSiO.sub.4) and zirconium silicate (ZrSiO.sub.4), ytterbium disilicate (Yb.sub.2Si.sub.2O.sub.7); and barium magnesium alumino silicate (BMAS) or other alkaline earth aluminosilicate.

Surface-coated cutting tool
A surface-coated cutting tool including a tool substrate containing WC crystal grains and insulating grains, and a coating layer composed of a multiple nitride of Ti, Al, and V and disposed on the surface of the tool substrate. The multiple nitride is represented by a compositional formula: Ti.sub.aAl.sub.bV.sub.cN satisfying the following relations:
0.25≤a≤0.35,
0.64≤b≤0.74,
0<c≤0.06, and
a+b+c=1
wherein each of a, b, and c represents an atomic proportion. The coating layer is characterized by exhibiting a peak attributed to a hexagonal crystal phase and a peak attributed to a cubic crystal phase as observed through X-ray diffractometry.
Surface-coated cutting tool
A surface-coated cutting tool including a tool substrate containing WC crystal grains and insulating grains, and a coating layer composed of a multiple nitride of Ti, Al, and V and disposed on the surface of the tool substrate. The multiple nitride is represented by a compositional formula: Ti.sub.aAl.sub.bV.sub.cN satisfying the following relations:
0.25≤a≤0.35,
0.64≤b≤0.74,
0<c≤0.06, and
a+b+c=1
wherein each of a, b, and c represents an atomic proportion. The coating layer is characterized by exhibiting a peak attributed to a hexagonal crystal phase and a peak attributed to a cubic crystal phase as observed through X-ray diffractometry.
Coated Composites of AL2O3-CEO2/ZRO2 and a Method for their Production
The present invention relates to a metal oxide coated composite comprising a core consisting of a mixture of a La stabilised AI.sub.2O.sub.3 phase and an Ce/Zr/RE.sub.2O.sub.3 mixed oxide phase, the core having a specific crystallinity, specific pore volume and a specific pore size distribution, and a method for the production of the metal oxide coated composite.
