Pavement aging can be reduced by applying to an asphalt-containing pavement a topcoat layer or a surface treatment containing asphalt binder emulsion with sterols.

The present disclosure sets out a method for processing bituminous road surfacing material from a road demolition. The bituminous road surfacing material is in the form of break out material and/or milled material. The following steps are carried out as part of the method: mixing the bituminous road surfacing material with water to form a mixture and adding a peroxide and/or a bicarbonate to the water and/or the mixture, in particular hydrogen peroxide and/or a bicarbonate.

The invention relates to a bitumen additive comprising a wax dispersed in water, the water being in the continuous phase and the wax in the dispersed phase; the wax comprising a Fischer-Tropsch wax and one or more hydrocarbon waxes selected from the group comprising petroleum-based waxes, polyolefin waxes, or mixtures thereof; and an emulsifier. Disclosed are compositions and methods of making and using asphalt roofing materials. The asphalt roofing materials include sterols. The sterols improve various rheological and aging properties of the asphalt roofing materials.

An asphalt composition has a modified asphalt binder. The modified asphalt binder includes an initial binder, an elemental sulfur, a recycled plastic, and a crumb rubber, the crumb rubber including a recycled material. The recycled plastic and the crumb rubber together define a binder modifier. The binder modifier and the initial binder together define an intermediate binder. The elemental sulfur is in an amount of 30 to 50 weight percent, by weight of the modified asphalt binder. The crumb rubber is in an amount of 10 to 20 weight percent, by weight of the intermediate binder.

Disclosed are asphalt binder compositions and methods for making such compositions with pure sterol:crude sterol blends. The sterol blends improve various rheological properties.

A method for repairing/treating a pavement with the use of a rheology modifier is disclosed. The method comprises first applying a layer of a rheology modifier composition comprising a rejuvenating component onto the top surface of the pavement that needs repair, then applying a second layer of a binder onto the rheology modifier layer. The second layer of binder effectively seals the rheology modifier layer with the rejuvenating component for intimate contact with the top pavement surface, thus penetrating the surface layer to extend the life of the pavement surface, arresting the deterioration of visco-elastic properties and restoring some of those properties.

This invention, in embodiments, relates to non-asphaltic coatings for roofing materials, to roofing materials made therefrom and to methods of preparing such coatings and roofing materials. By blending thermoplastic polymers with appropriate fillers and/or recycled materials, a composition is produced that can be pressed into a desired shape, or that can be additionally mixed with oils, resins and/or waxes to provide a liquid that can be poured onto an appropriate substrate.
