A polyol polymer is obtained from reactants including: a) a non-aromatic epoxy functional compound that includes at least 30 weight % of the total solids weight of the reactants; and b) an aromatic mono-carboxylic acid functional compound, or anhydride thereof, that is substantially free of non-aromatic ethyl enic unsaturation. The polyol polymer has ester linkages and hydroxyl functional groups, Further, if the reactants further include an aromatic polycarboxylic acid, the aromatic polycarboxylic acid makes up less than 15 weight % of the total solids weight of the reactants. A coating composition is also prepared with the polyol polymer.

A method of manufacturing a molded article by a low shear manufacturing process that includes: placing a solid polyester in a mold having mold surfaces; heating said polyester until it becomes molten; dispersing said molten polyester over said mold surfaces; solidifying said molten polyester to form a solid molded article; and removing said molded article from said mold; where the polyester is obtained by polymerization of dimethylcyclohexane dicarboxylic acid, cyclohexane dimethanol, polytetramethylene ether glycol and branching agent and has a steep melting curve evidenced by a puddling curve slope of −2 to −10.

The present invention relates to powder coating compositions for low temperature cure between 100° C. and 150° C. The powder coating composition comprises: a) a carboxylic acid functional resin A which is a polyester resin A having carboxylic acid groups, b) a first glycidyl functional resin B1 which is a bisphenol A based epoxy resin having glycidyl groups, c) a second glycidyl functional resin B2 which is a phenol or cresol epoxy novolac resin having glycidyl groups, and d) At least one thermosetting curing catalyst C. Such powder coating composition may exhibit, upon curing, an excellent combination of physical properties such as smoothness, flexibility, hardness and, above all, an outstanding durability for the MEK impregnation test.
