Temporary flexible pavement markers

A temporary flexible pavement marker comprising a base, a stand and a protective shield wherein at least part of the stand is reflective and the protective shield is configured to prevent materials sprayed down upon the temporary flexible pavement marker from obscuring the reflective part of the stand may be employed in the construction or repair of roads. Since the protective shield prevents asphalt from obscuring the reflective part of the stand during spraying operations there is no need for removal of a protective layer from the markers after a spraying operation.

Reversible reflective pavement marker

Reflective pavement markers held fixedly to a roadway by epoxy or adhesive include reflectors and a body with spaced top and bottom mounting faces, transverse forward and rearward faces, and lateral side faces. A recess formed in the forward and rearward faces of the body may receive and vertically mount a reflector therewithin. The reflectors have vertical outer faces that are orthogonal to the body mounting faces and angled 30°±15° relative to an orthogonal line from a lateral side face such that the marker generally has a parallelepiped shape. An array of openings, which may be closed or open, extend inwardly into the body from the top and bottom faces and have constricted openings to positively lock in the fixing adhesive and prevent the marker from easily lifting from the pavement.

This invention is a novel retroreflective traffic stripe comprising a widely spaced repeating pattern of linear light turning prisms over cube corner retroreflective prisms in a critical optimal configuration. The light turning prisms comprise at least two exposed surfaces, one approximately vertical facing the headlights of oncoming traffic, and another opposing the first and sloped by approximately 45 degrees. The approximately vertical surface efficiently accepts light from the headlights and transmits such light to the sloped surface which totally internally reflects such light downward onto an array of cube corner retroreflective prisms, which totally internally reflect such light in approximately the reverse direction. Such reflected light once more encounters the sloped face of the light turning prisms which totally internally reflects the light toward the approximately vertical surface, where such light exits and returns toward the headlights and, more importantly, toward the eyes of the driver of the vehicle.

RETROREFLECTIVE ELEMENTS INCLUDING PARTICLES

The present disclosure generally relates to retroreflective elements including a core and a plurality of glass or glass-ceramic beads adjacent to the core. The retroreflective elements further include a plurality of particles having a diameter that is less than the diameter of the glass or glass ceramic beads in the retroreflective elements. The present disclosure also generally relates to articles (including, for example, retroreflective roadway liquid pavement markings) including these retroreflective elements and methods of making and using these retroreflective elements.
