METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DATA-TRANSFER VIA A DRILL PIPE
A drill-pipe communication assembly includes a first drill pipe segment. A conductor extends at least partially along a length of the first drill pipe segment. An antenna is electrically coupled to the first drill pipe segment. The antenna facilitates wireless transmission of signals from the first drill pipe segment to an adjacent second drill pipe segment.

Drill string rotation brake
A rotation brake for stopping rotation of a spindle assembly on a horizontal directional drill. The rotation brake comprises a brake lock that is actuated by a cylinder and spring to interact with a non-rotating brake cap and a rotating pinion, thereby stopping rotation of the pinion. The brake lock is removed from the pinion by applying pressurized fluid to a cylinder such that a cylinder rod moves the brake lock out of a cavity between the brake cap and the pinion. Upon removing fluid pressure from the cylinder, a compressed spring moves the brake lock back to into the cavity, preventing rotation.

VIRTUAL ASSISTED MAKEUP
A method of handling pipe segments during makeup and breakout of a drill string. The method uses a hydraulic circuit, which provides fluid to a motor or motors for translating a drill pipe segment. The drill pipe segment is supported by a carriage, which places the segment next to a drill string for addition thereto. Hydraulic pressure within the circuit is monitored to determine if a pressure fluctuation exists. If so, the translation speed is adjusted by modifying the hydraulic fluid flow to the motors. Sensors may be utilized to determine whether or not the system is in a “transition zone” and therefore ready for pressure monitoring for makeup and breakout functions.
Drill pipe
A drill pipe comprises a drill pipe body and a tool joint that comprises a rotary shoulder connection is disclosed. The rotary shoulder connection comprises: a box connection, wherein the box connection has a box outer radius, a box counter bore radius and a box inner radius, and box threads having a box thread form cut along a box taper; a pin connection, wherein the pin connection has a pin outer radius, a pin cylinder radius and a pin nose radius, and pin threads having a pin thread form cut along a pin taper to align with the box threads inside the box connection; and a primary shoulder connection comprising: a primary box shoulder that is angled or curved; and a primary pin shoulder that is angled or curved. Methods of using the drill pipe are also disclosed.

Compensated drill floor
A system includes a first structure configured to be coupled to a tubular string extending to a seafloor, whereby the first structure comprises a drill floor. The system further includes a second structure configured to provide a lateral force to the first structure while allowing for vertical movement between the first structure and the second structure relative to the seafloor.
