Fuel and thermal management system
A system for fuel and thermal management of fuel delivered to an engine is disclosed. The system includes a supply of fuel in fluid communication with a fuel inlet of the engine, and an oxygen sensor for measuring dissolved oxygen content in the fuel is in fluid communication with the fuel. The fuel is heated by transferring heat from engine oil in a heat exchanger. The temperature of the fuel is controlled by controlling engine oil flow and airflow through another heat exchanger upstream of the fuel/oil heat exchanger on the oil circulation path with engine oil.
Piston cooling system
An engine cylinder block includes a control valve and stratified layers defining a network internal to the cylinder block. The network includes a main feed line in fluid communication with the control valve, and branched and winding arterial channels extending from the main feed line with diameters that taper to define nozzles configured to spray coolant on sides of pistons carried within the cylinder block.
Piston for an internal combustion engine
A piston for an internal combustion engine includes a piston head and a piston skirt, wherein the piston head has a piston base, a circumferential ring part and, in the region of the ring part, a circumferential closed cooling channel or sealed cavity. An inner side of the piston has two lower surfaces which transform continuously in the region of the piston central axis (M) to form an arched surface. The piston skirt has piston hubs provided with hub bores which are interconnected by means of running surfaces which have inner surfaces facing the inside of the piston. Starting from the free ends of the piston skirt, inside the piston on the pressure side (DS) and/or counter pressure side (GDS), an inner surface of a running surface continuously transforms into a guiding surface for a coolant which transforms continuously on the side thereof into a lower surface.
Piston cooling jet system
Systems are provided for a piston cooling jet system for cooling a piston of a locomotive engine. In one example, a piston cooling jet system includes a feed body hydraulically coupled to an oil reservoir and a pair of piston cooling tubes extending radially outwards, in opposite directions, from the feed body. The tubes may have showerhead outlet features at one end for uniformly spraying oil onto inlets of a piston oil gallery housed in the piston.
GALLERYLESS PISTON WITH SLOTTED RING GROOVE
A galleryless piston including a ring belt with three ring grooves is provided. Each ring groove is formed by an uppermost wall and a lower wall spaced from one another by a back wall. A pair of pin bosses depend from the upper wall, and pair of skirt panels depend from the ring belt and are coupled to the pin bosses by struts. An inner undercrown region is surrounded by the skirt panels and the struts and the pin bosses. A pair of outer pockets extend along the undercrown surface, and each outer pocket is surrounded by a portion of the ring belt and one of the pin bosses and the struts coupling the one pin boss to the skirt panels. The third ring groove includes an oil drain slot extending through the back wall to the outer pockets of the piston for conveying cooling oil.
PUMP GROUP
A pump group of a cooling system of a vehicle engine is provided. The pump group extends with respect to an axis (X-X) and has an impeller, a shaft, the impeller being integrally mounted on the shaft, an electric motor having a rotor integrally mounted on the shaft and a stator. A pump body, extending with respect to the axis (X-X), has an impeller casing housing the impeller in an impeller chamber, and a motor casing housing the electric motor in a motor chamber. The motor casing has an intermediate tubular wall positioned between the rotor and the stator so as to define a rotor chamber and a stator chamber sealingly separated from each other. The stator chamber contains a predefined amount of cooling oil, the predefined amount of cooling oil at least partially filling the stator chamber so that the stator is cooled by convection.
SUPPORT AND CONNECTION DEVICE
A support and connection device is for an operating group of a vehicle. The support and connection device is configured for supporting and for fluidic connection with an operating device in turn included in the operating group. The support and connection device identifies a vertical axis and two longitudinal axes and includes at least one plate-shaped unit in which, in the vertical direction, there is at least one mouth for the passage of a working fluid. The plate-shaped unit includes an upper laminar element, a lower laminar element reciprocally stacked along the vertical axis and a hollow space between them. The at least one mouth for fluid passage is defined laterally by a fluid mouth wall constituted by the reciprocal engagement of an upper mouth rim included in the upper laminar element and by a lower mouth rim included in the lower laminar element.
Cooling device for vehicle
A cooling device for a vehicle is provided, which includes a first coolant channel through which a first coolant for cooling an engine flows, a second coolant channel through which a second coolant for cooling a motor drive flows, and an oil channel through which oil for lubricating inside a transmission flows. The oil channel includes a first heat exchanger configured to exchange heat between the first coolant and the oil, a second heat exchanger configured to exchange heat between the second coolant and the oil, and a valve configured to adjust a first flow rate of the oil circulating through the first heat exchanger and a second flow rate of the oil circulating through the second heat exchanger.
Aircraft power plant cooling system
A method of cooling an aircraft power plant having a combustion engine is disclosed. The method comprises in a first operating mode, inducing a cooling air flow through a heat exchanger in an air conduit via a flow inducing device fluidly connected to the air conduit, the heat exchanger connected in heat exchange relationship with the power plant of the aircraft. The method comprises, in a second operating mode, bypassing the cooling air flow from the flow inducing device via a selectively closable air outlet of the air conduit downstream of the heat exchanger. A cooling system for an aircraft power plant is also disclosed.
OPTIMIZED PISTON TEMPERATURE CONTROL IN GASEOUS FUEL HYDROGEN ENGINE SYSTEM
Operating a gaseous fuel engine system includes combusting a mixture containing a gaseous hydrogen fuel and air in a cylinder of an engine, varying an operating parameter of the engine to which a crown surface temperature of a piston within the cylinder is responsive, and populating a temperature model based on a value of the varied operating parameter. Operating a gaseous fuel engine system further includes operating an oil spray apparatus to spray oil onto the piston based on the populated temperature model, and maintaining the crown surface temperature of the piston between a high temperature limit and a pre-ignition mitigation temperature limit based on the operating of the oil spray apparatus. Related apparatus and control logic is also disclosed.
