BYPASS VALVE FOR COMPRESSOR
A product and method are disclosed for use with an engine including an intake passage providing combustion air to the engine. An exhaust passage may channel expelled combustion gases from the engine. A first compressor may be disposed in the intake passage, and a turbine may be disposed in the exhaust passage and may be coupled to the first compressor. The turbine may be arranged to rotate as a result of a flow of exhaust gases through the exhaust passage to drive the first compressor. A flow control device may be disposed in the intake passage upstream from the first compressor. An alternate passage may be provided having a first end opening to the intake passage upstream from the flow control device and having a second end opening to the intake passage downstream from the flow control device. A second compressor may be disposed in the alternate passage, with a drive unit adapted to drive the second compressor. The flow control device may be adapted to be closed to substantially prevent flow through the intake passage and to be open to impart swirl to a gas stream in the intake passage.

ENGINE SYSTEM WITH ROTATABLE FLOW GUIDE
An engine system provided. The engine system includes a rotatable flow guide including a flow altering surface positioned upstream of an intake valve having a first side with a curved contour, the flow altering surface generating tumble and swirl flow patterns of intake airflow entering a cylinder through the intake valve in a plurality of active positions. The engine system further includes a flow guide actuator rotating the flow altering surface to alter the tumble and swirl flow patterns of the intake airflow.
ENGINE
An engine includes a combustion chamber, a cylinder head, an intake valve, a partition wall plate, and a tumble valve. The cylinder head includes an intake port that communicates with the combustion chamber. The intake valve includes a head configured to open and close an open end of the intake port. The partition wall plate partitions the intake port into first and second passages. The tumble valve is configured to open and close either one of the first passage and the second passage. A cross sectional shape of the partition wall plate is defined on a basis of a shape of a gap that is surrounded by a contour of the head and a contour of the open end, as viewed in a reference direction. The reference direction is a direction from a reference point in the intake port to a gap between the open end and the head.
CONTROL APPARATUS FOR COMPRESSION-IGNITION TYPE ENGINE
An engine control apparatus includes an ignition control section and an injection control section. When the partial compression ignition combustion is carried out, the ignition control section causes an ignition plug to carry out: main ignition in which a spark is generated in a late period of a compression stroke or an initial period of a expansion stroke to initiate the SI combustion; and preceding ignition in which the spark is generated at earlier timing than the main ignition. Also, when the partial compression ignition combustion is carried out, the injection control section causes the injector to inject fuel at such timing that the fuel exists in a cylinder at an earlier time point than the preceding ignition. The energy of the preceding ignition is set to be higher when the in-cylinder pressure specified by the in-cylinder pressure specification section is high than when the in-cylinder pressure is low.

Timing of the preceding ignition is more advanced when a swirl flow is gentle than when the swirl flow is strong.
