The present invention provides a high efficiency prime mover with phase change energy storage for distributed generation and motor vehicle application. Phase change storage minimizes energy required for refrigerant liquefaction while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

Garbage in power out (GIPO) thermal conversion process

A system for gasifying a carbonaceous feedstock, such as municipal waste, to generate power includes a devolatilization reactor that creates char from the feedstock and a gasifier that creates a product gas from both the char and from volatiles released when devolatilizing the feedstock. The product gas is reacted in a fuel cell to create electrical energy and process heat. The process heat is used to heat the devolatilization reactor and the gasifier. The gasifier comprises a plurality of configurable circuits that can each be tuned to meet the individual needs of the char material being gasified.

The present invention is an improvement in a number of ways of two issued patents identified in the preamble of the Specification which follows. Such improvement will yield a more reliable process that uses coal and other hydrocarbons but avoids the discharge of hazardous pollutants into the atmosphere and lowers investment costs. This invention offers a unique and comprehensive solution that makes possible the prevention of the ill-effects to health and environment while at the same time would also prevent the closure of badly needed power generation facilities that still provide some 40% of the electricity generated in this country. The herein comprehensive solution converts six pollutants into valuable co-products while low-cost, efficient, electric power is generated to result in attracting industries that will help keep badly needed jobs. This invention is also applicable to other disciplines.

Combined cycle power plant with flue gas recirculation

An exemplary method for the operation of a CCPP with flue gas recirculation to reduce NOx emissions and/or to increase the CO2 concentration in the flue gases to facilitate CO2 capture from the flue gases as well as a plant designed to operate is disclosed. To allow a high flue gas recirculation ration (rFRG) an imposed combustion inhomogeneity ratio (ri) is used for flame stabilization. The imposed combustion inhomogeneity ratio (ri) is controlled as function of the flue gas recirculation rate (rFRG) and/or combustion pressure. Oxygen or oxygen enriched air to the gas turbine inlet gases or to the combustor is admixed to enhance operatability.

METHOD FOR IMPROVING THE PERFORMANCE AND EFFICIENCY OF DIESEL, GAS-TURBINE, TURBO-JET COMBUSTION ENGINE
20170306848 · 2017-10-26 ·

The invention relates to a method for improving the performance and efficiency of diesel, gas-turbine, and turbojet combustion engines. The technical result is the creation of conditions for the formation of the open flame formed by burning (oxidation) of hydcerocarbon gases released directly at the moment the fuel is fed into combustion chamber. Consequently, it increases the efficiency and performance of the internal combustion engine. The claimed result is achieved by method of increasing the efficiency and performance of diesel, gas-turbine, turbojet internal combustion engines, which includes the following steps: obtaining hydrogen containing gas from a portion of fuel, previously split by way of overheating; injection into the combustion chamber previously split fuel; obtaining the flame of hydrogen-containing gases at the moment of injection; obtaining the effect of flaring combustion of the major portion of the injected fuel.

Gasifier having integrated fuel cell power generation system

A direct carbonaceous material to power generation system integrates one or more solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) into a fluidized bed gasifier. The fuel cell anode is in direct contact with bed material so that the H.sub.2 and CO generated in the bed are oxidized to H.sub.2O and CO.sub.2 to create a push-pull or source-sink reaction environment. The SOFC is exothermic and supplies heat within a reaction chamber of the gasifier where the fluidized bed conducts an endothermic reaction. The products from the anode are the reactants for the reformer and vice versa. A lower bed in the reaction chamber may comprise engineered multi-function material which may incorporate one or more catalysts and reactant adsorbent sites to facilitate excellent heat and mass transfer and fluidization dynamics in fluidized beds. The catalyst is capable of cracking tars and reforming hydrocarbons.
