FUEL AGNOSTIC COMPRESSION IGNITION ENGINE
Some embodiments described herein relate to a method of operating a compression ignition engine. The method of operating the compression ignition engine includes opening an intake valve to draw a volume of air into a combustion chamber, closing an intake valve, and moving a piston from a bottom-dead-center (BDC) position to a top-dead-center (TDC) position in the combustion chamber at a compression ratio of at least about 15:1. The method further includes injecting a volume of fuel into the combustion chamber at an engine crank angle between about 330 degrees and about 365 degrees during a first time period. The fuel has a cetane number less than about 40. The method further includes combusting substantially all of the volume of fuel. In some embodiments, a delay between injecting the volume of fuel into the combustion chamber and initiation of combustion is less than about 2 ms.
Powertrain system
A powertrain system includes a port injection internal combustion engine. A first start process is a process in which fuel is enclosed in a compression stroke cylinder when the engine is stopped, and based on a stored crank stop position, ignition is performed in a first cycle of the compression stroke cylinder upon engine start. A second start process is a process in which, based on the stored crank stop position, fuel injection is performed for an intake stroke cylinder while the engine is stopped, and based on the stored crank stop position, ignition is performed in the first cycle of the intake stroke cylinder upon engine start. When a catalyst temperature at the time engine start is requested is equal to or higher than a first threshold, a control device starts the internal combustion engine by at least one of the first start process and the second start process.

A straddled vehicle engine unit including an internal combustion engine and a misfire detection device. The internal combustion engine has a crankshaft, and a crank angle signal output unit that periodically outputs a crank angle signal in accordance with rotation of the crankshaft. The internal combustion engine is configured to repeat at least two kinds of strokes on a cycle of every 720-degree rotation of the crankshaft. The misfire detection device includes a crankshaft rotation speed fluctuation physical quantity acquisition unit configured to acquire a physical quantity related to an amount of fluctuation in a rotation speed of the crankshaft in one kind of stroke, out of the at least two kinds of strokes, based on the crank angle signal from the crank angle signal output unit, and a misfire determination unit configured to perform a misfire determination in response to each acquisition of the crankshaft rotation speed fluctuation physical quantity.
Crankshaft, transmission or camshaft sensor, diagnosis system and method implementing such a sensor
The invention relates to a crankshaft, transmission or camshaft sensor (10) for a motor vehicle, intended for being connected to an engine control unit (30) by a cable (20). The sensor comprises a processing module (17) and a voltage-modifying circuit (18) configured to generate an output signal via an output port (12) of the sensor (10) allowing a diagnosis module (36) of the engine control unit (30) to detect and identify faults of the sensor (10) or the cable (20). In particular, the processing module (17) is configured to provide on its output port (172), when the toothed target (14) is immobile, a predetermined pattern representing the fact that the toothed target (14) is immobile, this predetermined pattern corresponding to a status change of the output port (172) of the processing module (17) with a predetermined time and repeated periodically. The invention likewise relates to a diagnosis system (1) comprising such a sensor (10), a cable (20) and an engine control unit (30). The invention also relates to a diagnosis method (50) implemented by said diagnosis system (1).
Phase diagnosis method and apparatus
A phase diagnosis method and apparatus. When it is verified that the location of an engine is valid, an oil injector performs spraying at a top center compression position; if no acceleration is detected after spraying, it indicates that a fault occurs; in order to detect whether it is a fault of phase deviation of the camshaft by 180 degrees, the oil sprayer performs spraying at the top center exhaust position and detects whether there is an acceleration; if an acceleration is detected, it indicates that the situation of the phase deviation of the camshaft by 180 degrees exists. In this way, the problem in the prior art of being unable to detect phase deviation when the phase of a camshaft is deviated by 180 degrees is solved.
CONTROLLER FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
To provide a controller for internal combustion engine which can improve the estimation accuracy of the period in the chipped tooth section, even if the period is suddenly varied in the chipped tooth section. A controller for internal combustion engine detects a period when the tooth passes, based on an output signal of the crank angle sensor; determines a period corresponding to the chipped tooth section; determines a crank angle corresponding to the passed tooth; and estimates a period of a virtual unit angle interval when assuming that the tooth is provided at the unit angle interval in the chipped tooth section, based on the period of the chipped tooth section, the period before the chipped tooth section, and the period after the chipped tooth section.
CONTROL APPARATUS FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE
A control apparatus for an electric vehicle includes a first motor (traveling motor) for traveling, a battery (high-voltage battery), a second motor (generator motor) for electricity generation, an engine (rotary engine), a first controller (engine ECU), a second controller (motor ECU), and a sensor (voltage-current sensor). The second controller is configured to start the engine by causing the second motor to perform power running, cause the second motor to perform electricity generation driving such that the battery is charged, and adjust a stop position of the engine by causing the second motor to perform power running subsequently to a stop of the engine by the first controller in a case where a state of charge of the battery becomes high and the second motor finishes the electricity generation driving.
System and method for controlling opposed piston engine operation for rotation direction
A method for controlling operation of an opposed piston engine is provided, comprising: determining a direction of rotation of the engine; comparing the determined direction of rotation to a correct direction of rotation of the engine; and responding to the determined direction of rotation being different from the correct direction of rotation by taking corrective action.

A detection apparatus for detecting a cam angle of a 4-stroke multi-cylinder engine in which explosion intervals are unequal intervals, includes a detection target member configured to rotate in synchronism with a camshaft, and first and second cam angle sensors configured to detect rotation of the detection target member. The detection target member includes a plurality of first detection target portions arranged, at equal pitches, as many as the number of cylinders of the multi-cylinder engine. The second cam angle sensor is arranged while being shifted in the rotation direction with respect to the first cam angle sensor such that any one of detection signals of the plurality of first detection target portions by the first cam angle sensor and the second cam angle sensor is output at a timing corresponding to each explosion interval.
CONTROLLER FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
To provide a controller for internal combustion engine which suppresses that estimation of the combustion state is performed based on the angle information on which the component due to the torsional vibration is superimposed, when the torsional vibration occurs in the crankshaft. A controller for internal combustion engine determines whether a torsional vibration occurs in a crankshaft based on an angle period; calculates a gas pressure torque in burning based on a crank angle acceleration which is calculated based on the angle period; estimates a combustion state of an internal combustion engine based on the gas pressure torque in burning; and stops estimation of the combustion state, when it is determined that the torsional vibration occurred.
