FUEL INJECTOR AND METHOD OF ORIENTING AN OUTLET OF THE SAME
A fuel injector includes a fuel inlet; a fuel injector body; an outlet body having an upstream surface, a downstream surface, and an outlet aperture fluidly connecting the upstream surface to the downstream surface; and a valve assembly which controls flow through the outlet aperture. The outlet body includes a 2-dimensional matrix of cells on the downstream surface and includes a perimeter having a finder pattern and a timing pattern and also includes a field of unpopulated and populated cells within the perimeter which represent bits of data. The 2-dimensional matrix of cells orients the outlet body relative to the fuel injector body.
Filter pre-fill detection system and method
A system for detecting a pre-fill status of a fuel filter in a fuel system includes a monitoring mechanism structured to monitor a fluid property of the fuel system indicative of priming. A control mechanism is coupled with and structured to received data from the monitoring mechanism, and outputs a signal responsive to a time to prime the fuel system that is indicative of a filter pre-fill state.
System and method for engine emission control harness
A method includes determining an identity of each sensor of a plurality of sensors arranged within an engine system and coupled to a harness of the engine system, loading a calibration for each sensor of the plurality of sensors from a memory based at least in part on the determined identity of the respective sensor, and determining a configuration of the plurality of sensors based at least in part on the determined identities of the plurality of sensors. The plurality of sensors includes exhaust sensors configured to monitor a flow property of engine exhaust.
Method and system for torque control
Methods and systems are provided for detecting air-fuel ratio imbalances across all engine cylinders. In one example, a method (or system) may include indicating cylinder imbalance based on each of the exhaust air-fuel ratio, exhaust manifold pressure, and cylinder torque weighted by a confidence factor, where in the confidence factor is determined based on operating conditions.
Method for making valve device
An opening degree sensor produces a sensor output corresponding to a valve opening degree of a valve, and includes a memory into which the sensor output corresponding to the valve opening degree is written. When performing a first half process, flow rates of more than one valve device are measured, a flow rate error is calculated based on an average flow rate obtained by averaging the measured flow rates, and the sensor output corresponding to the valve opening degree into which the flow rate error is incorporated is obtained. When performing a second half process, the sensor output corresponding to the valve opening degree obtained in the first half process is written into the memory of the valve device whose flow rate is not measured.
Method and apparatus for modifying an automobile engine control unit
A secondary controller for controlling the performance of an automobile is described. The secondary controller can be configured to temporarily reprogram one or more vehicle controllers, such as the engine control unit, after the automobile has been powered on. The secondary controller can substitute command sets with different command sets by rewriting the corresponding portion of RAM. The secondary controller can receive vehicle information from the engine control unit to determine the particular type of vehicle to locate the particular command in RAM in order to rewrite the command set. In one embodiment, the secondary controller communicates with the vehicle controller via the vehicle's diagnostic port, such as an OBD-II port. In another embodiment, the secondary controller can be configured to control a variable displacement engine in a vehicle to command the vehicle to operate using all available cylinders.

A control mechanism is coupled with and structured to received data from the monitoring mechanism, and outputs a signal responsive a time to prime the fuel system that is indicative of a filter pre-fill state.
Diesel engine, diesel engine manufacturing method, and diesel engine injection-amount correction system
A diesel engine 30 includes an injector 4 that uses a solenoid to directly drive a needle valve and inject a fuel and an injector control device 2 that controls the driving by the injector 4. The injector control device 2 includes a charge voltage control circuit 22, a storage unit 25 that stores a correction value related to an injection amount of the fuel injected from the injector 4, and an injector control circuit 24 that controls the driving by the injector 4 on the basis of each of a voltage supplied from the charge voltage control circuit 22 and the correction value stored in the storage unit 25. The correction value is set according to a voltage applied to a terminal of the injector control device 2 connected to a load when a current starts to flow in the load connected to the injector control device 2.
