Microfluidic systems
The present invention relates to a fluid conduit system and manufacture thereof, for the propulsion of fluids. The micro- or millifluidic system is useful within LOC, POC diagnostics digital ELISA, drug delivery applications or sampling. The system includes a capillary pump and a fluid conduit operationally connected to the pump, and a gas-permeable liquid-sealed unit with a vent hole gas-permeable to the outside. The fluid conduit includes a first conduit zone prefilled or pre-Tillable with a first volume of trigger liquid, upstream of the unit with the vent hole, a third conduit zone with a further volume, upstream of the capillary pump, and a second conduit zone pre-filled or pre-Tillable with a working liquid between the first and third conduit zones, connected to both, and directly connected to the first conduit zone. The first volume is proportionally larger than or equal to the volume of the third conduit zone.

Gas cell driven fluid delivery device for spill-resistant storage and use
An orientation independent delivery device including a replaceable cartridge that may be installed on a foundation. A cartridge includes a gas chamber, a delivery chamber, a gas cell, and a delivery aperture. The gas chamber includes a gas-side rigid portion and a gas-side flexible barrier. The gas-side flexible barrier is sealed to the gas-side rigid portion. The delivery chamber includes a delivery-side rigid portion and a delivery-side flexible barrier. The delivery-side flexible barrier is sealed to the delivery-side rigid portion and is oriented adjacent to the gas-side flexible barrier. The gas cell is coupled to the gas-side rigid portion of the gas chamber. The gas cell increases a gas pressure within the gas chamber to expand the gas-side flexible barrier. Expansion of the gas-side flexible barrier applies a compressive force to the delivery-side flexible barrier allowing a delivery material to escape from the delivery chamber.
No-drip volatile substance delivery system
A volatile substance delivery system includes a volatile substance container to contain a volatile substance, an optional absorbent and collapsible element disposed within the container to reduce presence of undesired air during manufacture of the device, an outlet to deliver a volume of the volatile substance from the volatile substance container to an ambient environment, and a manual screw pump to reduce volume (or sometimes, just increase pressure) within the volatile substance container and promote the delivery of the volatile substance from the volatile substance container.

WOOD-BASED SOLAR THERMAL DEVICES, AND METHODS FOR FABRICATION AND USE THEREOF
Solar thermal devices are formed from a block of wood, where the natural cell lumens of the wood form an interconnected network that transports fluid or material therein. The block of wood can be modified to increase absorption of solar radiation. Combining the solar absorption effects with the natural transport network can be used for various applications. In some embodiments, heating of the modified block of wood by insolation can be used to evaporate a fluid, for example, evaporating water for extraction, distillation, or desalination. In other embodiments, heating of the modified block of wood by insolation can be used to change transport properties of a material to allow it to be transported in the interconnected network, for example, heating crude oil to adsorb the oil within the block of wood.
