A high-pressure fuel pump includes a drive shaft, and a vane pump and a plunger pump which are driven by the drive shaft. The vane pump is configured to supply pre-pressurized fuel to the plunger pump. The drive shaft includes a cam configured to drive a piston rod of the plunger pump such that the plunger pump alternately executes a fuel suction stroke and a fuel discharge stroke. The drive shaft further includes a shaft portion for driving a rotor of the vane pump. The vane pump is configured such that for each fuel suction stroke of the plunger pump the vane pump provides a fuel supply cycle that is advanced by a phase angle relative to the fuel suction stroke.

The plurality of vanes each have an end selected from the group consisting of a lobe, no lobe, and a rod located in the lobe. Each of the plurality of vanes also includes a pivot pin configured to fit in a corresponding receptacle located in the rotor so that each of the plurality of vanes is pivotable with respect to the rotor inside the cavity.

A positioning ring is located within the rotor central chamber such that the positioning ring engages each vane and such that the positioning ring urges each vane into contact with the recess peripheral surface. The positioning ring is radially aligned with a midpoint of each vane.

The pump has a low pressure region which receives servo liquid flow to be pumped by its rotating body, and a high pressure region through which pressurised servo liquid flow leaves the pump.
