Variable gap between impeller rotor and static structure

An assembly is provided for a turbine engine. This assembly includes a static structure and an impeller rotor housed within the static structure. The impeller rotor includes a vane structure and a shroud. The vane structure includes a first sidewall, a second sidewall and a plurality of vanes arranged circumferentially about a rotational axis. The vanes include a first vane. The first vane includes a first portion, a second portion and a third portion. The first portion is axially between the first sidewall and the second sidewall. The second portion is radially between the first sidewall and the shroud. The third portion is radially between the second sidewall and the shroud. The shroud circumscribes the vane structure. A gap is formed by and extends between the shroud and the static structure. A dimension of the gap changes as the gap extends along the shroud.

The impeller is housed in the pump chamber and is configured to use the rotating shaft as an axis. The pump substrate has a magnetism generating source. The rotating shaft protrudes into the pump chamber from the pump substrate, and is pivotally supported on the pump substrate. A magnetic fluid is disposed on at least one of spaces formed among the pump substrate, the rotating shaft, and the impeller.

A submersible well pump assembly includes a pump driven by a motor. The pump has a number of stages, each stage including a diffuser having an annular diffuser inlet with an annular outer wall. Diffuser passages lead downstream and inward from the diffuser inlet. An impeller has a circumferential outer edge adjacent the outer wall of the diffuser inlet. Notches are formed in the circumferential outer edge, defining a serrated configuration.

The inner and outer peripheral portions are spaced apart from each other with a flat proximal opposed surface portion therebetween. The opposed surface portion is opposed to respective axial end surfaces of vanes of the impeller. The volute also includes a peripheral wall surrounding the peripheral surfaces of the vanes.

The planar mating surface is proximate to the outer surfaces of the vanes and includes a plurality of channels extending radially from the inner perimeter to the outer perimeter thereof. Each channel includes a forward edge in the direction of impeller rotation. The channels are oriented such that when the impeller is rotated within the volute, for any vane, the leading edge of the vane traverses each channel progressively from the inner end of the channel to the outer end of the channel.

The webs are arranged on both components of the housing part and of the cover disc and delimit chambers which accelerate, decelerate and divert a flow. In this way, the gap seal has a high throttling action.

Turbomachine

Leakage of a working fluid from a shaft sealing device of a turbomachine which handles a liquid as the working liquid is reduced and also unstable fluid force which acts on a rotor is reduced. For this purpose, the turbomachine has a rotor having an impeller, a bearing which rotatably supports the rotor, a casing which contains the rotor therein and forms a stationary flow passage, and the shaft sealing device which reduces the leakage of the working fluid through a gap part between the casing and the rotor. The working fluid is a liquid. A plurality of axial grooves which are intermittently arranged in axial direction and circumferential direction of the rotor with a land part being interposed are provided in an inner circumferential surface of the shaft sealing device.

This centrifugal rotary machine includes an impeller having a disk, blades, and a cover. The centrifugal rotary machine further includes a casing which accommodates the impeller radially inward and forms a gap between an outer circumferential surface of the cover and the casing. The centrifugal rotary machine further includes a sealing device which seals the gap. The casing includes an end wall surface which is disposed to face one axial side of a cover end surface facing one axial side of the cover, extends in the radial direction and forms a radial flow path between the end wall surface and the cover end surface. The casing further includes a foreign matter introduction path which is formed inside the casing and communicates with a radially outer side of the radial flow path.
