A multistage wind turbine or network of wind turbines with improved and optimized wind-directing, wind-shaping, and wind-power conversion features is disclosed. The shapes of these features directly affect the ability of the multistage wind turbine to use the power of moving air, to spin a rotor and create torque on a rotor shaft to generate electrical, thermal and/or other forms of energy. The wind-power-conversion mechanical efficiency described significantly improves upon previous designs by conversion of wind energy into electrical power at a superior price-to-performance ratio compared with existing alternative energy technologies.

PITCH CONTROL OF WIND TURBINE BLADES IN A STANDBY MODE

Operating a wind turbine generator (WTG) comprising a pitch control system, the operation comprising: a) operating the WTG in a normal mode while the WTG is connected to an external grid; b) controlling the pitch angle of the blades using a normal pitch control mode while the WTG is operating in the normal mode; c) detecting a grid loss; d) operating the WTG in a standby mode during the grid loss; and e) controlling the pitch angle of the blades in dependence on a monitored speed parameter of the WTG using a standby pitch control mode different to the normal pitch control mode while the WTG is operating in the standby mode, wherein the standby pitch control mode is less responsive than the normal pitch control mode such that the power consumption of the pitch control system is reduced when the WTG is operating in the standby mode.

A hydroelectric power generation system includes a water turbine, a generator connected to the water turbine, and a controller. The water turbine is arranged in a flow path through which a fluid flows. The controller performs a pressure control by controlling the generator to regulate a pressure of the fluid downstream of the water turbine. The pressure control includes a first control regulating the pressure in parallel with a regenerative operation of the generator, and a second control regulating the pressure in parallel with a power running operation of the generator.

A blade pitch system can include one or more motors configured to pitch one or more blades of a wind turbine and a power source. The power source can include a plurality of energy storage devices coupled in series. The plurality of energy storage devices can be configured to provide power to the one or more motors during a power loss event. The power source can further include at least one bypass current device configured to allow a bypass current to provide power from at least one energy storage device to the one or more motors. The bypass current can be a current that bypasses one or more failed energy storage devices in the plurality of energy storage devices.

Hydraulic turbine with self-power generation to manage, monitor and control the pressure and flow in a water or other fluid supply system

This invention regards a hydraulic turbine (1) to operate in pressure circuits, where there is a flow of a fluid, to control the flow and pressure downstream the installation point. Even so, said turbine (1) can generate power for itself based on the difference of pressure and flow, as the remaining power can be used in public power networks or isolated. Its application field comprises sanitation companies, beverage industries, paper and cellulose industries, petrochemical companies or any places, where it is needed to control the flow and pressure in supply networks.

METHOD FOR CONTROLLING A WIND TURBINE SYSTEM IN RELATION TO BRAKING OF THE YAW SYSTEM

The invention relates to a method for controlling a wind turbine system, more particular for a controlled sliding strategy to lower loads on the yaw system by controlling mechanical brakes and motor brakes in the yaw drive actuators. When the yaw system being in the non-yawing operational state, and the mechanical brake(s) being in an engaged state, and the yaw controller determines or receives a signal indicative of a yaw moment, and if the signal indicative of a yaw moment is above a signal threshold, then the yaw controller sends a braking signal to the yaw drive actuators to enter the motors into the brake state to apply a braking torque.
