A combustor of an aircraft engine comprises a liner defining a primary and a dilution zone having a hot surface exposed to a flow of combustion gases traveling from the primary zone downstream to the dilution zone and a cold surface. Dilution holes extending through the liner from the cold to the hot surface delimit the primary from the dilution zone. Effusion holes extending through the liner from the cold to the hot surface direct cooling air into the dilution zone. Two or more rows of effusion holes positioned within three dilution hole diameters downstream of the dilution holes are oriented relative to the liner to direct the cooling air in a cooling direction that is at least one of normal to the direction of the flow of gases passing adjacent the effusion holes, and against the direction of the flow of gases passing adjacent the effusion holes.

An airfoil for a gas turbine engine according to an example of the present disclosure includes a platform section and an airfoil section extending in a spanwise direction from the platform section to a tip portion establishing a tip. The airfoil section has an external wall defining pressure and suction sides extending in a chordwise direction between a leading edge and a trailing edge, and the pressure and suction sides are spaced apart in a thickness direction between the leading edge and the trailing edge. The tip portion includes a tip pocket and a tip shelf extending inwardly from the tip. The tip pocket and tip shelf are on opposite sides of a shelf wall.

An outlet 99a of the at least one squealer tip cooling hole 99 is disposed at the chamfer surface 9.

A turbine airfoil includes a body including a wall defining pressure and suction sides, and a leading edge extending between the pressure and suction sides. A cooling circuit inside the wall of the body includes at least one of: a) a suction side to pressure side cooling sub-circuit including a first cooling passage(s) extending from the suction side to the pressure side around the leading edge to a first plenum, and a plurality of first film cooling holes communicating with the first plenum and extending through the wall on the pressure side; and b) a pressure side to suction side cooling sub-circuit including second cooling passage(s) extending from the pressure side to the suction side around the leading edge to a second plenum, and a plurality of second film cooling holes communicating with the second plenum and extending through the wall on the suction side.

A first exterior wall connects the leading edge to the trailing edge and a second exterior wall connects the leading edge to the trailing edge. The at least one first internal cooling passage is isolated from the at least one second internal cooling passage.

In one embodiment, an airfoil is provided having a flow modulation insert for modulating a flow of cooling fluid received in a cavity of a body of the airfoil. In another embodiment, a shroud is provided comprising a cooling channel for a flow of cooling fluid and an insert that varies in position to modulate the flow of cooling fluid through the cooling channel. In yet another embodiment, a method for operating a gas turbine engine having a cooling circuit for cooling one or more components of the gas turbine engine comprises increasing power provided to the engine and decreasing power provided to the engine to modulate a position of a flow modulation insert located in the cooling circuit and thereby modulate the flow of cooling fluid through the cooling circuit.

A method of providing an oxidation resistant coating is disclosed. The method includes providing a substrate having a first surface and cooling holes. A portable coating device includes electro-spark deposition (ESD) equipment and an ESD torch connected with the ESD equipment. The ESD torch has an inert gas source and a rotary electrode conductive material. The rotary electrode is positioned within the ESD torch, and is shielded by an inert gas. The rotary electrode applies a compositionally controlled protective coating to the first surface of the substrate. Then the rotary electrode is inserted into the cooling hole and generates an electrospark between rotary ESD electrode and the substrate to form a rounded edge and deposit a coating of electrode material alloy at a cooling hole edge.

A turbine blade disposed along a radial direction of a turbine includes: an airfoil portion positioned in a fluid flow passage of the turbine; and a shroud portion positioned on an inner side or an outer side of the airfoil portion in the radial direction, and having an opening with which an end portion of the airfoil portion is to be engaged. A clearance is formed between a wall surface forming the opening of the shroud portion and an outer peripheral surface of the end portion of the airfoil portion. The wall surface of the shroud portion and the outer peripheral surface of the airfoil portion are joined to each other. At least one of the shroud portion or the airfoil portion has a cooling hole formed thereon, the cooling hole having an opening into the clearance and being configured to supply the clearance with a cooling fluid.
