Method and control unit for operating a diesel internal combustion engine or a dual-fuel internal combustion engine operated in the diesel mode
A method for operating an internal combustion engine wherein the internal combustion engine to be operated is supplied with lubricating oil via an oil circuit. A measurement value of a total base number and/or a measurement value of the viscosity of the lubricating oil currently used in the oil circuit for the lubrication is detected. Dependent on the established measurement value of the total base number and/or dependent on the established measurement value of the viscosity an exchange oil quantity for the oil circuit is determined. Currently used lubricating oil to an extent corresponding to the exchange oil quantity is removed from the oil circuit. New lubricating oil to an extent corresponding to the exchange oil quantity is supplied to the oil circuit.
Method for preventing accumulation of cylinder oil at scavenging ports of low-speed marine engine
Provided is a method for preventing the accumulation of cylinder oil at scavenging ports of low-speed marine engines. An oil passage is provided on a cylinder wall inside a cylinder. The oil passage includes multiple oil storage grooves processed in a circumferential direction of the cylinder wall. The oil passage is formed by obliquely extending from the inner side of the cylinder wall to the outside of the cylinder in a radial direction of the cylinder. The scavenging ports are uniformly distributed in a circumferential direction of the cylinder wall, and each of the oil storage grooves is correspondingly processed at an upper portion of the scavenging port upper edge of the scavenging port. Each of the oil storage grooves has a shape matching the curved surface of the scavenging port upper edge.
Method and system for checking an oil level in a marine drive unit
A method for checking the oil level in a marine drive unit, where the drive unit is provided with an external oil filter, an oil level sensor adapted to determine an oil level in the drive unit, and an electronically controlled tilt means, comprising the steps of, initiating an oil level check, controlling the tilt means to tilt the drive unit to a plurality of different tilt angle positions, for each tilt angle position, determining if the oil level sensor detects the oil level in the drive unit, for each tilt angle position, registering the tilt angle of the drive unit and the signal from the oil level sensor, determining at which tilt angles the sensor detects the oil level, and in dependence of the determined tilt angle of the drive unit, determining if the oil level of the drive unit is within a predefined range.
Cooling apparatuses for marine engines having a crankcase and an intake plenum
A marine engine has a crankcase containing lubricant; an intake plenum for conveying intake air for combustion in the marine engine; and a cooling apparatus located between the crankcase and the intake plenum. The cooling apparatus is configured to cool both the lubricant in the crankcase and the intake air in the intake plenum.
METHOD AND CONTROL UNIT FOR OPERATING A SPARK-IGNITION INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE OR A DUAL-FUEL INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE OPERATED IN THE SPARK-IGNITION MODE
A method for operating an internal combustion engine that is supplied with lubricating oil via an oil circuit. A measurement value of the total base number and/or a measurement value of the oxidation of lubricating oil currently used in the oil circuit for the lubrication is detected. Dependent on the established measurement value of the total base number and/or dependent on the established measurement value of the oxidation an exchange oil quantity for the oil circuit is determined. Currently used lubricating oil to an extent corresponding to the exchange oil quantity is removed from the oil circuit and new lubricating oil to an extent corresponding to the exchange oil quantity is supplied to the oil circuit.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR BLENDING OIL ON A MARINE VESSEL
An oil blending system for a marine diesel two-stroke engine and/or generator comprises a blender having at least one inlet for receiving a lubrication oil and at least one other component and at least one outlet for outputting a mixed lubrication oil composition to the engine or generator. A blender controller is configured to receive parameter data on the current lubrication oil status used in the engine or generator and receive parameter data on the current engine and/or generator status. The blender controller is also configured to automatically determine whether the currently used lubrication oil is within a predetermined parameter range based on the current engine and/or generator status. If the current lubrication oil is outside a predetermined parameter threshold, the blender controller is configured to determine a new lubrication oil composition for the engine or generator.
Lubricating tool for boat steering cable
Various examples of a tool for lubricating a boat steering cable are described, along with examples of using the tool. In one example, a tool for lubricating a boat steering cable includes a lubricator barrel and a threaded lubricator pin. The lubricator barrel includes an outer cylindrical surface, a first end surface, and a second end surface. The lubricator barrel also includes a central barrel cavity extending from the first end surface, along a longitudinal centerline of the lubricator barrel, and a pin cavity extending from the outer cylindrical surface to the central barrel cavity. In some cases, the lubricator barrel also includes a first o-ring seat, a second o-ring seat, or both. The first o-ring seat is positioned at one end of the central barrel cavity and the second o-ring seat is positioned at the outer cylindrical surface of the pin cavity.
