APPARATUS FOR A DIRECTED-ENERGY WEAPON
An apparatus for a directed-energy weapon comprises an assessment system arranged to, during an assessment phase, perform an assessment of a target environment, wherein the target environment comprises a target; and a controller arranged to, during the assessment phase, control the directed energy weapon to direct energy towards the target environment so that the assessment system can perform the assessment using the directed energy.
DIRECTED ENERGY (DE) WEAPON AND PASSIVE MILLIMETER WAVE (PmmW) IMAGER FOR TARGET TRACKING
A DE energy weapon and tracking system includes a passive millimeter wave (PmmW) imaging receiver on a common gimbaled telescope to sense natural electromagnetic radiation from a mmW scene. The PmmW imaging receiver operates in a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum distinct from the IR bands associated with thermal blooming or the HEL laser. In the case of a HPM source, the reflected energy is either in a different RF band and/or of diminished amplitude such as to not interfere with operation of the PmmW imaging receiver. Although lower resolution than traditional optical imaging, PmmW imaging provides a viable alternative for target tracking when the DE weapon is actively prosecuting the target and provides additional tracking information when the DE weapon is not engaged.
INTUMESCENT DIRECTED ENERGY PROTECTION
A method for protecting an underlying structure from directed energy including combining an intumescent material with the underlying structure. The intumescent material forms a barrier to directed energy received on the intumescent material, the barrier suppressing or impeding transmission of the directed energy, and heat generated in the barrier by the directed energy, to the underlying structure.
Method for fast thermalization and thermal management operation optimization
Systems and methods are provided for decreasing thermalization time and/or increasing coefficients of performance by adding waste heat. A thermal management system may include a coolant loop and be configured to cool a target component via the coolant loop, the thermal management system may be further configured to heat the target component during a thermalization period with a waste heat source via the same coolant loop with which the thermal management system is configured to cool the target component.
HIGH-SPEED HYBRID PROPULSION FOR AIRCRAFT
An exemplary high-speed hybrid propulsion system for a tiltrotor aircraft includes two pivotal nacelles, each nacelle comprising an electric motor coupled to a proprotor; an electric aircraft system; an electric generator; an electrical bus electrically connected to the electric generator, the electric motors, and the electric aircraft system; and a convertible turbofan engine coupled to an electric generator through a drive shaft.
METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR A PUBLIC AREA DEFENSE SYSTEM
A public area defense system, comprising a non-lethal reactive deterrence defense subsystem, an optical subsystem operably coupled to and in communication with the non-lethal reactive deterrence defense subsystem, and an acoustic subsystem operably coupled to and in communication with the non-lethal reactive deterrence defense subsystem. The public area defense system may further comprise a computer system in communication with each of the non-lethal reactive deterrence defense subsystem, the optical subsystem, and the acoustic subsystem, wherein each of the non-lethal reactive deterrence defense subsystem, the optical subsystem, and the acoustic subsystem are operable to interact with an actor
HIGH-POWER ELECTROMAGNETIC SOURCE, VEHICLE AND METHOD
A high-power electromagnetic source for HPEM pulses in a desired radiation direction includes at least three antennas fixed in relation to one another for pulse components, wherein at least two groups of antennas with a respective main direction are present, and a control unit for the activation and phase position of the pulse components for the superimposition for the HPEM pulse, wherein the current radiation direction of said pulse is selectable in an angle range around the main direction. A vehicle with an HPEM source has the antennas mounted in a fixed position or a support for the antennas is pivotably mounted on the vehicle. In a method for emitting the HPEM pulse, all antennas are controlled in order to select the radiation direction in the angle range of less than 360.

SYNCHRONIZATION OF HIGH POWER RADIOFREQUENCY SOURCES
The range of energy transmissions or bursts (e.g., the range of high power microwave (HPM) directed energy weapons) may be increased using multiple sources (e.g., multiple HPM sources). For instance, according to techniques described herein, the individual sources may be fired at precise times such that the electromagnetic pulses are efficiently generated by each source and accurately add waveform peaks on the target. One or more aspects of the described techniques achieve sub-nanosecond timing accuracy by placing an HPM source, ultra-stable clock, and a laser pulse detector on each HPM weapon platform. For instance, the array may be triggered by firing a laser pulse at the target from one platform. By timing the firing of each HPM source based upon when the reflected laser pulse arrives at each platform as measured by the clock, the HPM pulses may arrive on target more accurately (e.g., more simultaneously).
