Lightweight Cartridge Case and Weapon System
The rifle system comprises a rifle and an ammunition round for operation with the rifle. The high pressure ammunition round further comprises a cartridge case having an outer wall wherein prior to firing of the ammunition round, the outer wall geometry of the cartridge case is devoid of features configured for interfacing with a mechanical extractor. The rifle further comprising a barrel chamber which fully supports a chambered cartridge case and a rear extraction mechanism for extracting a spent cartridge case through the rear of the barrel chamber.
POLYMER AMMUNITION HAVING A MIM PRIMER INSERT
One embodiment of the present invention provides a polymeric ammunition having a metal injection molded primer insert.
METHOD OF MAKING POLYMERIC SUBSONIC AMMUNITION
The present invention provides a method of making a subsonic ammunition having a polymeric casing body having a generally cylindrical hollow polymer body having a body base at a first end thereof and a mouth at a second end to define a propellant chamber; a propellant insert positioned in the propellant chamber to reduce the internal volume of the propellant chamber, wherein the propellant chamber has an internal volume that is at least 10% less than the open internal volume of a standard casing of equivalent caliber; and a primer insert positioned in the body base and in communication with the propellant chamber.
Method of making a primer insert for use in polymer ammunition
One embodiment of the present invention provides a polymeric ammunition cartridge and methods of making and using the same. The cartridge includes a substantially cylindrical insert connected to a substantially cylindrical polymeric middle body. The substantially cylindrical insert includes a top surface opposite a bottom surface and a substantially cylindrical coupling element that extends from the bottom surface, a primer recess in the top surface that extends toward the bottom surface, and a flange that extends circumferentially about an outer edge of the top surface. The substantially cylindrical polymeric middle body includes a substantially cylindrical polymeric bullet-end and a substantially cylindrical polymeric coupling end connected by a powder chamber, wherein the substantially cylindrical polymeric coupling end contacts the substantially cylindrical coupling element.
METHOD OF MAKING A POLYMERIC SUBSONIC AMMUNITION CARTRIDGE
The present invention provides a method of making a subsonic ammunition cartridge having a polymeric casing body having a generally cylindrical hollow polymer body having a body base at a first end thereof and a mouth at a second end to define a propellant chamber; a propellant insert positioned in the propellant chamber to reduce the internal volume of the propellant chamber, wherein the propellant chamber has an internal volume that is at least 10% less than the open internal volume of a standard casing of equivalent caliber; and a primer insert positioned in the body base and in communication with the propellant chamber.
CARTRIDGE WITH SAFETY FUSE IN THE DRIVE SYSTEM, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING IT
A cartridge with a drive system and a projectile which is connected to the drive system, wherein the drive system has a propellant case filled with a propellant and has a case bottom containing a substantially axially extending case bottom opening with a T-shaped edge contour. The case bottom opening is closed by a plug which is of T-shaped configuration, receives an ignition cap and is held in position by a safety fuse ring of a rupture disc. The safety fuse ring is arranged between the front side of the head part of the plug and the rear side of an adjoining inner-side projection of the case bottom, with the result that the propellant chamber is delimited by the front surface of the plug neck. An inner edge of the safety fuse ring engages in a positively locking and/or non-positive manner into an outer groove-shaped recess of the plug.
Multi-Piece Polymer Ammunition Cartridge Nose
The present invention provides a polymer nose for a polymeric ammunition cartridge having a generally cylindrical neck having a projectile aperture at a first end, a shoulder comprising a shoulder top connected to the generally cylindrical neck opposite a shoulder bottom, a nose junction positioned around the shoulder bottom, a skirt connected circumferentially about the nose junction to extend away from the shoulder bottom, wherein the nose junction and the skirt are adapted to mate to a base junction in a cartridge.
Primer insert having a primer pocket groove
The present invention provides a primer insert for use in a polymeric ammunition cartridge includes a top surface opposite a bottom surface and a extraction flange that extends circumferentially about an outer edge of the top surface; a coupling element that extends from the bottom surface, wherein the substantially cylindrical coupling element is adapted to receive a polymer overmolding; a primer recess in the top surface that extends toward the bottom surface, wherein the primer recess comprises a recess bottom and a circular recess side wall; a primer flash aperture through the recess bottom that extends through the bottom surface, wherein the primer flash aperture is adapted to receive a polymer overmolding to form a flash hole; and a groove in the primer recess positioned around the primer flash aperture adapted to receive a polymer overmolding, wherein the groove extends at least partially over the bottom surface and at least partially over the circular recess side wall and the groove is adapted to receive polymer over the bottom surface and at least partially over the circular recess side wall.
POLYMER CARTRIDGE WITH SNAPFIT METAL INSERT
A high strength polymer-based cartridge has a polymer case with a mouth, a neck, a shoulder below the neck, and a body below the shoulder and having a case thickness (Tc). The body has a flat portion comprising a pull thickness (Tp), and a dip, closer to the shoulder than the flat portion and comprising a dip thickness (Tb). The cartridge can also include an insert attached to the polymer case opposite the shoulder. The insert can have a flat section contacting the flat portion and comprising an insert wall thickness (Ti), and a bulge engaging the dip to maintain the insert on the polymer case. Tc, Tp, Tb, and Ti are related by Tp+Tb+Ti=Tc. These variables also have ranges where Tp equals approximately 15-33% of Tc, Tb is greater than or equal to Tp, and Tc is a function of a loaded projectile.
Subsonic polymeric ammunition cartridge
The present invention provides a subsonic ammunition cartridge including a polymeric casing body comprising a generally cylindrical hollow polymer body having a body base at a first end thereof and a mouth at a second end to define a propellant chamber; a propellant insert positioned in the propellant chamber to reduce the internal volume of the propellant chamber, wherein the propellant chamber has an internal volume that is between 25 and 80% less than the open internal volume of a standard casing of equivalent caliber; and a primer insert positioned at the body base and in communication with the propellant chamber.
