FIBER OPTIC CONNECTOR WITH FIELD INSTALLABLE OUTER CONNECTOR HOUSING

An optical connector includes a first sub-assembly that is factory-installed to a first end of an optical fiber and a second sub-assembly that is field-installed to the first end of the optical fiber. The optical fiber and first sub-assembly can be routed through a structure (e.g., a building) prior to installation of the second sub-assembly. The second sub-assembly interlocks with the first sub-assembly to inhibit relative axial movement therebetween. Example first sub-assemblies include a ferrule, a hub, and a strain-relief sleeve that mount to an optical fiber. Example second sub-assemblies include a mounting block; and an outer connector housing forming a plug portion.

Optical connector polishing jig

In a polishing apparatus an optical connector polishing jig holds the MT ferrule provided at the connection end portion of the optical connector, the optical connector polishing jig includes: a cylinder base; a cylinder shaft held on the cylinder base to be capable of moving in the up-down direction; and a set block connected to an end of the cylinder shaft and having a hole into which the MT ferrule is inserted and in which fixing means for adjusting the pressing force and fixing the MT ferrule is inserted, and a surface of the fixing means that comes into contact with the MT ferrule has a protrusion that partially protrudes to apply a pressing force to the MT ferrule such that when the MT ferrule is fixed, an end surface of the MT ferrule is slightly deformed and a center portion of the end surface in a longitudinal direction swells.

MANUFACTURE AND TESTING OF FIBER OPTIC CASSETTE

A double flexible optical circuit includes: a flexible substrate supporting a plurality of optical fibers; a first connector terminating the optical fibers at a first end of the double flexible optical circuit; and a second connector terminating the optical fibers at a second end of the double flexible optical circuit. Each of the optical fibers is positioned in one of a plurality of separate extensions formed by the flexible substrate as the optical fibers extend from the first connector to the second connector. The first and second connectors are configured to be tested when the first and second connectors are connected through the double flexible optical circuit. The double flexible optical circuit is configured to be divided in half once the testing is complete to form two separate flexible optical circuits.

The present invention provides an end face polishing device capable of improving a polishing accuracy by polishing an end face of an optical fiber ferrule with adjusted polishing pressure. An end face polishing device 1 for optical fiber ferrule for polishing an end face of an optical fiber ferrule by applying a polishing pressure between a polishing plate 5 driven by a polishing drive shaft and an optical fiber ferrule held by a holding portion 9. The end face polishing device for optical fiber ferrule has: a bearing portion for allowing the polishing plate 5 to rotate relatively around the polishing drive shaft and to move relatively to the polishing drive shaft in an axial direction; a polishing plate guide supporting portion 31 for movably supporting the polishing plate 5 on a base portion 3 to apply the polishing pressure to the holding portion 9 by allowing the polishing plate 5 to move in the axial direction; a pressing drive source 15 for adjustably outputting a driving force to apply the polishing pressure; and a pressing force transmission mechanism 21 for transmitting the driving force output from the pressing drive source 15 as a pressing force in the axial movement direction of the polishing plate 5.

Optical connector ferrule, sleeve, and method for manufacturing ferrule member

An object is to provide an optical fiber connector ferrule, a sleeve, and a method for manufacturing a ferrule member that can avoid an increase in manufacturing time and an increase in cost of optical connectors for connecting multicore optical fibers. The present invention provides an optical fiber connector ferrule, a sleeve, and a method for manufacturing ferrule member which realizes alignment of multicore optical fibers corresponding to the connection by mounting a ferrule on a multicore fiber and then cutting a ferrule member instead of aligning core positions by rotating an axis of an optical fiber and adjusting positions of cores to the ferrule, leading to simplification of a rotational alignment step.

LASER POLISHING OF AN OPTICAL FIBER WITH CONTROL OF END FACE SHAPE OF OPTICAL FIBER

The present disclosure relates to a laser polishing apparatus where the laser beam emitted by the laser polishing apparatus can be configured to control the shape of the optical fiber end face. Stated another way, the laser polishing apparatus parameters can be adjusted such that the laser beam emitted can polish the optical fiber end face into a particular shape.

ANGLED MULTIFIBER FERRULE AND OPTICAL FIBER CONNECTORS

A multifiber ferrule has a generally forward-facing angled ferrule contact surface that is skewed with respect to the widthwise axis of the ferrule such that the angled ferrule contact surface defines a widthwise skew angle with respect to the widthwise axis. A multifiber optical connector has a connector housing assembly that holds at least one of this type of ferrule. The connector housing assembly can hold two such ferrules so that the ferrule contact surfaces are angled in opposite widthwise directions and so that a broad side of the first ferrule opposes a broad side of the second ferrule in parallel, spaced apart relationship therewith. A polarity-changeable multifiber optical connector is also provided that includes a multifiber ferrule with a generally forward-facing ferrule contact surface at an oblique angle to the longitudinal axis.
