A light source, including: a pulse generator for providing an initial sequence of light pulses, the pulse generator including an optical source for producing optical pulses; and a modulator in communication with the optical source for increasing or decreasing the selected number of pulses provided by the pulse generator in the selected time period; first and second optical arms, for propagating, respectively, first and second sequences of light pulses, wherein the first optical arm includes a first manipulator configured to generate the first sequence of light pulses from the initial sequence of light pulses, wherein the light source includes a nonlinear optical element arranged to receive the first sequence of light pulses or the second sequence of light pulses, and an optical switch arranged to switch either the first sequence of light pulses or the second sequence of light pulses for reception by the nonlinear optical element.
DEVICE FOR PHOTONIC GENERATION OF ARBITRARY MICROWAVE SIGNALS HAVING LINEAR FREQUENCY MODULATION
Photonic devices for generating linearly frequency modulated arbitrary microwave signals comprise a laser, and assembly for forming the emitted signal and a photoreceiver the passband of which is in the domain of the microwave frequencies. The forming assembly comprises: a first beam splitter; a first optical channel including a frequency-shifting loop comprising a beam splitter, a first optical amplifier, an optical isolator, a first spectral optical filter and an acousto-optical frequency shifter; a second optical channel including an electro-optical frequency shifter; a second beam splitter; a second optical amplifier; and a second optical filter; the acousto-optical frequency shift, the electro-optical frequency shift and the amplification gain of the first optical amplifier being adjustable.
Light source
A light source including: a pulse generator for providing a first sequence of light pulses, the first sequence of light pulses including a first number of light pulses within a predetermined time period, a manipulator configured to generate a second sequence of light pulses from the first sequence of light pulses, the second sequence of light pulses having a second number of light pulses within the predetermined time period, the second number being different from the first number, and a nonlinear optical element arranged to receive the second sequence of light pulses.
OPTOELECTRONIC OSCILLATOR WITH TUNABLE FILTER
An optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) is disclosed comprising an electronically tunable filter for transposing narrow pass band characteristics of a surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter to a microwave frequency to provide mode selection in the OEO. An OEO is disclosed comprising a set of optical domain components, a downconverter in communication with an output of the optical domain components, and a set of radio frequency (RF) domain components in communication with an output of the downconverter. The set of RF domain components comprises a tunable filter operating at a filter center frequency and having an output coupled to the set of optical domain components for communicating a mode selection result. The tunable filter including a tuner; and a sub-filter. The sub-filter operating at a fixed center frequency to provide mode selection and adjacent mode suppression with respect to the tunable filter center frequency. The sub-filter center frequency being lower than the tunable filter center frequency, and a ratio of the tunable filter center frequency to a bandwidth of the sub-filter being at least 1000:1.
Closed-track optical delay modules, terahertz systems and photoelectric systems
A closed-track optical delay module, a terahertz system, and a photoelectric system are provided. The closed-track optical delay module comprises a first constraint component with a closed-track line structure, a second constraint component with a straight line groove, a third constraint component with a positioning convex, a light conversion device, a housing, and a driving control device. The positioning convex forms a constraint fit relationship with the closed curve groove and straight line groove. One of the first, second, and third constraint components is connected with the driving control device, the other is fixedly disposed, a next one is connected with the light conversion device and moves parallel to the straight line groove. A light input interface is used for an incident light to be irradiated onto the light conversion device. A light output interface is used for a delayed beam to be emitted from the housing.

Multi-mode multi-pass delay
An optical device includes a first plurality of waveguides including a first waveguide and a second waveguide and a multimode waveguide delay comprising a first end and a second end. The first waveguide and the second waveguide are coupled to the first end of the multimode waveguide delay. The first waveguide is coupled to a first optical mode in the multimode waveguide delay. The second waveguide is coupled to a second optical mode in the multimode waveguide delay. The optical device includes a second plurality of waveguides including a third waveguide and a fourth waveguide. The third waveguide and the fourth waveguide are coupled to the second end of the multimode waveguide delay. The third waveguide is coupled to the first optical mode in the multimode waveguide delay. The fourth waveguide is coupled to the second optical mode in the multimode waveguide delay.
Optical arbitrary pulse pattern generator
A generator device for generating an arbitrary optical pulse pattern includes: a light source to provide primary laser pulses, a distributor to provide a plurality of primary optical pulses by distributing light of the primary laser pulses (LB00.sub.k) into a plurality of branches, a combiner to form an output signal by combining modulated optical signals from the branches, and a controller unit to provide control signals for controlling optical modulators of the branches, wherein a first branch comprises a first optical modulator to form a first modulated optical signal from primary optical pulses of the first branch, wherein a second branch comprises a second optical modulator to form a second modulated optical signal from primary optical pulses of the second branch, and wherein a propagation delay of the second branch is different from a propagation delay of the first branch.
