A naphthalenedicarboximide derivative is represented by general formula (1) or (2). In general formulas (1) and (2), R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 each represent, independently of one another, an alkyl group which has a carbon number from 1 to 10 and which may have an aryl group having a carbon number from 6 to 14, an aryl group which has a carbon number from 6 to 14 and which may have an alkyl group having a carbon number from 1 to 10, a cycloalkyl group having a carbon number from 3 to 10, or an alkoxy group having a carbon number from 1 to 6, and m represents an integer from 0 to 4. When m represents an integer of 2 or more, chemical groups R.sub.2 may each be the same or may each be different. ##STR00001##

ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC PHOTOSENSITIVE MEMBER, PROCESS CARTRIDGE, AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

An electrophotographic photosensitive member includes a conductive substrate and a photosensitive layer. The photosensitive layer is a single-layer photosensitive layer. The photosensitive layer contains a charge generating material, a hole transport material, an electron transport material, and a binder resin. The binder resin contains a polyarylate resin (1). The polyarylate resin is represented by general formula (1). The photosensitive layer has a scratch resistance depth of no greater than 0.50 m. The photosensitive layer has a Vickers hardness of at least 17.0 HV.

An electrophotographic photosensitive member can provide images in which black spots and fogging are suppressed and density unevenness due to coating unevenness of the charge generation layer is suppressed. The charge generation layer of the electrophotographic photosensitive member contains a gallium phthalocyanine crystal, a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound, and an amide compound represented by a formula (1), and a nitrogen atom in a heterocyclic ring of the nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound has a substituent. ##STR00001##

An image forming apparatus includes an image carrier, a charging roller, an exposure device, and a developing device. The image carrier includes a conductive substrate, an intermediate layer, and a photosensitive layer. The photosensitive layer includes an electric charge generation layer and an electric charge transport layer stacked on a surface of the electric charge generation layer, and the electric charge transport layer contains an antioxidant expressed by a general formula (1) below. In the formula (1), R.sup.1 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms or a general formula (2) below in which R.sup.2 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms. The charging roller has a resistance value in a range of 210.sup.5 to 210.sup.6[] when a DC voltage of 500 V is applied thereto under an environment of 10 C. and 10% RH.
