WAVEGUIDE GEOMETRY FOR IMPROVED DISPLAY PERFORMANCE
The present invention features new waveguide layouts for input, redirection (expansion), and output holograms that minimize cross talk between colors and allow all three colors to reside in a single waveguide. The use of multiple incoupling holograms that diffract different colors of light in different directions, or along different paths, through a waveguide substrate advantageously provides for a reduction of cross-talk between the colors of a holographic image. In a square-shaped design, red, green, and blue input and output holograms approximately overlay on top of each other. The green redirection hologram is laterally separated from the red and blue redirection holograms. Using this square-shape design, the light beams for the three colors are separated into two paths propagating from input to output holograms.

The metasurface includes a plurality of nanostructures configured to modify respective phases of incident light at a plurality of regions of the metasurface, where the plurality of nanostructures is configured to, at each region of the plurality of regions, add a respective phase delay for each of the two or more wavelengths to correct the chromatic aberration between the two or more wavelengths.
DISPLAY SYSTEM AND METHOD
A method and system for reducing the effects of glare in a system comprising a picture generating unit, such as a holographic projector. The system may be a head-up display (HUD), which is configured to display a picture to a viewer, without requiring the user to look away from their usual viewpoint. The HUD system may be comprised within a vehicle. The glare in the system may be caused by light being incident on a surface comprising a screen or a window, through which the user looks at their usual viewpoint. The surface may comprise a windshield in a vehicle. The light that causes the glare may be ambient light. The method and system are provided for reducing the effects of glare in a system that comprises a waveguide in conjunction with the picture generating unit.
