In the case of a change in the status of a subregion, the display of the status and/or warning and/or error message and a configuration option derived therefrom in one subregion or several subregions is automatically updated and adapted to the changed status.

The method has an automatic configuration of compatible connections between the interface hierarchy structure and the function hierarchy structure so that the model present in the testing device communicates through the compatible connections with the control unit to be tested or the technical system to be controlled.
