Methods and apparatus to provide heterogeneous memory die stacking for energy efficient computing are described. In one embodiment, a Phase Change Memory with Switch (PCMS) die is coupled to a Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) die and a Central Processing Unit (CPU) die. CPU checkpointing state data is stored in the PCMS die first before transferring the checkpointing data to a backup media at a later and more extended time. Other embodiments are also disclosed and claimed.

A computer, such as a programmable logic controller (PLC), implemented method for accessing a number of slave devices having a number of registers by a master device on a network includes the steps of: providing a generic driver software in the master device for accessing slave devices on the network; reading by the master device description files, describing the slave devices on the network; and using the description files for converting data read from and written to the generic driver when accessing the slave devices on the network.

Maintaining data block maps of clones of storage objects
09830096 · 2017-11-28 · ·

Described herein is a system and method for retaining deduplication of data blocks of a resulting storage object (e.g., a flexible volume) from a split operation of a clone of a base storage object. The clone may comprise data blocks that are shared with at least one data block of the base storage object and at least one data block that is not shared with at least one data block of the base storage object. The data blocks of the clone that are shared with the base storage object may be indicated to receive a write allocation that may comprise assigning a new pointer to an indicated data block. Each data block may comprise a plurality of pointers comprising a virtual address pointer and a physical address pointer. As such, data blocks of the clone comprising the same virtual address pointer may be assigned a single physical address pointer. Thus, a new physical address pointer is assigned or allocated once to a given virtual address pointer of data blocks of a clone.

Storage system

A storage system monitors the first access frequency of occurrence which is the access frequency of occurrence from a host device during a first period, and the second access frequency of occurrence which is the access frequency of occurrence from a host device during a second period shorter than the first period. Along with performing data relocation among the tiers (levels) in the first period cycle based on the first access frequency of occurrence, the storage system performs a decision whether or not to perform a second relocation based on the first access frequency of occurrence and the second access frequency of occurrence, synchronously with access from a host device. Here the threshold value utilized in a decision on whether or not to perform the first relocation is different from the threshold value utilized in a decision on whether or not to perform the second relocation.

Issuing operations directed to synchronously replicated data

Managing connectivity to synchronously replicated storage systems, including: identifying a plurality of storage systems across which a dataset is synchronously replicated; identifying a host that can issue I/O operations directed to the dataset; identifying a plurality of data communications paths between the host and the plurality of storage systems across which a dataset is synchronously replicated; identifying, from amongst the plurality of data communications paths between the host and the plurality of storage systems across which a dataset is synchronously replicated, one or more optimal paths; and issuing, to the host, an identification of the one or more optimal paths.

Virtual controller for game injection

A computing system includes an input driver and a virtual input controller. The input driver is configured to receive input data from a first controller of a recognized data protocol and to provide the input data to an API of an application to control actions of a first participant in the gaming application. The virtual input controller is, in contrast, configured to receive input data from a second controller of a protocol incompatible with the input driver, translate the input data to the recognized data protocol; request a broadcast application identifier for a currently-broadcasting application from the broadcasting agent, and provide the translated input data to the input driver in association with the broadcast application identifier for controlling actions of a second participant in the application via the API of the gaming application.

An integrated circuit may have processing and storage circuits that perform read-modify-write operations on a wide data path. A CAD tool may partition the wide data path into data path subsets based on the width of the wide data path, the characteristics of the processing and storage circuits, and various constraints such as resource constraints and timing constraints. The CAD tool may also instantiate corresponding pipelined circuitry. The pipelined circuitry may be arranged in slices with cascaded processing and storage circuits. Each processing and storage circuit in a slice may perform a read-modify-write operation based on the corresponding data path subset and any prior result produced by other processing and storage circuits.

Memory controller, method of operating, and apparatus including same

A method of operating a memory controller includes; counting a number of read operations directed to a page-group of data stored in a block and generating a first read count number, then comparing the first read count number with a first reference count threshold among a first set of reference count thresholds associated with the page-group, and upon determining that the first read count number exceeds the first reference count threshold, performing a copy-back operation of the page-group data from the block to another block.
