Selective compression circuitry in a memory device
11698758 · 2023-07-11 · ·

Methods and systems for selectively compressing data lines of a memory device in selective compression circuitry. The selective compression circuitry receives multiple data lines and compression circuitry that selectively compresses inputs. The selective compression circuitry also includes control circuitry to receive data over via the data lines. The control circuitry, when in a compressed mode, transmits data from each of the data lines to the compression circuitry. Alternatively, in an uncompressed mode, the control circuitry transmits data from a first subset of the data lines to the compression circuitry while blocking data from a second subset of the data lines from being transmitted to the compression circuitry.

Network Adapter with Efficient Storage-Protocol Emulation

A network adapter includes a network interface controller and a processor. The network interface controller is to communicate over a peripheral bus with a host, and over a network with a remote storage device. The processor is to expose on the peripheral bus a peripheral-bus device that communicates with the host using a bus storage protocol, to receive first I/O transactions of the bus storage protocol from the host, via the exposed peripheral-bus device, and to complete the first I/O transactions in the remote storage device by (i) translating between the first I/O transactions and second I/O transactions of a network storage protocol, and (ii) executing the second I/O transactions in the remote storage device. For receiving and completing the first I/O transactions, the processor is to cause the network interface controller to transfer data directly between the remote storage device and a memory of the host using zero-copy.

Non-volatile memory express over fabric (NVMe-oF™) solid-state drive (SSD) enclosure performance optimization using SSD controller memory buffer

Systems and methods provide alternative store-and-forward mechanisms to utilize a Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe™) drive's Controller Memory Buffer (CMB) instead of using a fabric bridge's memory resources to increase overall throughput. In various embodiment this successfully avoids performance scaling limitations of a centralized store-and-forward memory location for data input/output, within a large disk-array, that may otherwise oversubscribe the available memory space.

UPGRADING THE FILE SYSTEM OF OBJECTS IN A DISTRIBUTED STORAGE SYSTEM

An example method of upgrading a distributed storage object from a first version to a second version includes: querying metadata of a first component configured according to the first version of the distributed storage object, the metadata defining extents of data on a disk group of the first component; populating, for a second component configured according to the second version of the distributed storage object, logical and middle maps based on the metadata such that initial entries in the logical map point to initial entries in the middle map, and the initial entries in the middle map point to physical addresses of the disk group of the first component; and reading the data from the disk group of the first component and writing the data to a disk group of the second component while updating the initial entries in the middle map.

A system and method employing a distributed hardware architecture, either independently or in cooperation with an attendant data structure, in connection with various data processing strategies and data analytics implementations are disclosed. A compute node may be implemented independent of a host compute system to manage and to execute data processing operations. Additionally, an unique algorithm architecture and processing system and method are also disclosed. Different types of nodes may be implemented, either independently or in cooperation with an attendant data structure, in connection with various data processing strategies and data analytics implementations.

Encapsulated FICON communication

Using an alternative communication protocol between a first system and a second system that are otherwise configured to communicate using a FICON protocol includes the first system determining if the alternative communication protocol is handled by the second system, the first system providing encapsulated data by encapsulating FICON data if the alternative communication protocol is handled at the second system, and the first system transmitting the encapsulated data directly to the second system using the alternative communication protocol if the alternative communication protocol is handled at the second system. The alternative communication protocol may be TCP/IP. At least one of the systems is a host computing system, an array storage system, and/or a tape emulation system. At least one of the systems may be a simulation of a host computing system, an array storage system, and/or a tape emulation system.

Content addressable memory with sub-field minimum and maximum clamping

A processing system includes a content addressable memory (CAM) in an input/output path to selectively modify register writes on a per-pipeline basis. The CAM compares an address of a register write to an address field of each entry of the CAM. If a match is found, the CAM modifies the register write data as defined by a function for the matching entry of the CAM. In some embodiments, each entry of the CAM includes a data mask defining subfields of the register write data, wherein each subfield includes subfield data including one or more bits.

Methods of performing processing-in-memory operations, and related devices and systems

Methods, apparatuses, and systems for in-or near-memory processing are described. Bits of a first number may be stored on a number of memory elements, wherein each memory element of the number of memory elements intersects a bit line and a word line of a number of word lines. A number of signals corresponding to bits of a second number may be driven on the number of word lines to generate a number of output signals. A value equal to a product of the first number and the second number may be generated based on the number of output signals.

Methods, apparatuses and computer program products for dynamic data object replication and dynamic data object conversion in a network service cloud

Various examples herein described are directed to methods, apparatuses and computer program products configured for dynamically replicating and/or converting source data objects in one or more external-access-limited source data object repositories to replica data objects in one or more external-service-accessible replica data object repositories in a network service cloud. For example, a network service server of the network service cloud may generate a plurality of bootstrap task objects and at least one change data capture (CDC) task object, and may generate the replica data objects based on the task objects.

A hybrid memory system provides rapid, persistent byte-addressable and block-addressable memory access to a host computer system by providing direct access to a both a volatile byte-addressable memory and a volatile block-addressable memory via the same parallel memory interface. The hybrid memory system also has at least a non-volatile block-addressable memory that allows the system to persist data even through a power-loss state. The hybrid memory system can copy and move data between any of the memories using local memory controllers to free up host system resources for other tasks.
