A base plate is a portion of a housing of a hard disk drive, and includes a cast base body. The base body includes an inner surface including an inside machined surface that is machined and an inside non-machined surface that is not machined. The base body includes an outer surface including an outside machined surface that is machined and an outside non-machined surface that is not machined. The outside machined surface and the inside non-machined surface overlap in an axial direction that is a direction parallel or substantially parallel to a rotation axis of a disk of the hard disk drive.

According to one embodiment, a disk device includes rotatable magnetic disks, a first actuator assembly rotatably supported on a pivot through a first bearing unit, a second actuator assembly rotatably supported on the pivot through a second bearing unit and provided side by side with the first actuator assembly in an axial direction of the pivot, and a filter unit provided between the magnetic disks and the first and second actuator assemblies. The filter unit includes a holder including a shielding portion facing a boundary portion between the first actuator assembly and the second actuator assembly and a ventilation opening provided at a position spaced apart from the boundary portion in the axial direction, and a filter held by the holder and facing the ventilation opening.

Attenuating reaction forces caused by externally supported stators in brushless DC motors

An apparatus, according to one embodiment, includes: a support plate, a stator, a rotor sub-assembly, and at least one isolation mount coupled between the support plate and the stator. The isolation mount is for reducing transfer of vibration from the stator to the support plate. Moreover, the stator is coplanar with the support plate. The rotor sub-assembly includes a magnet, and a hub rotatably fixed relative to the magnet. The rotor sub-assembly is also configured to rotate relative to the support plate and the stator. Other systems, methods, and computer program products are described in additional embodiments.
