Techniques for manipulating objects and for determining the position of the objects in parallel dipole line (PDL) trap systems are provided. In one aspect, a PDL trap is provided. The PDL trap includes: a pair of dipole line magnets connected to a potential, wherein the pair of dipole line magnets includes magnets having magnetizations perpendicular to long axes of the magnets; a diamagnetic rod levitating above the pair of dipole line magnets; and at least one electrode above the pair of dipole line magnets, adjacent to the diamagnetic rod. The system produces a hybrid one-dimensional electromagnetic potential which is tunable by voltage. Techniques for operating the PDL trap to manipulate the diamagnetic rod and to detect a position of the diamagnetic rod in the PDL trap are also provided.
ELECTRICAL POWER GENERATOR AND AN ELECTRICAL POWER GENERATION METHOD
An electrical power generator includes a first part configured to be located in a fluid such that, when the fluid moves, it generates vortices in the fluid so that a lift force is generated on the first part, which produces an oscillating movement of the first part, which has an amplitude. The natural oscillation frequency of the first part may be adjusted to wind speed by way of magnets, which repel each other. Magnets may also be used to generate electrical currents in coils. The first part can have a diameter that increases with distance above the base of the generator.
THERMAL INSULATION FOR AIRCRAFT COMPONENTS
A thermal insulation system for an aircraft is provided. The thermal insulation system includes a carrier and a container. The carrier has an interior surface including a first plurality of magnets that generate a first magnetic field, and an exterior surface that is thermally coupled to at least one high temperature component. The container is surrounded by the interior surface of the carrier, has an exterior surface including a second plurality of magnets that generate a second magnetic field oriented opposite the first magnetic field, and has an interior surface that is thermally coupled to at least one temperature sensitive component. The first magnetic field and the second magnetic field generate a gap between the carrier and the container to reduce a heat transfer from the at least one high temperature component to the at least one temperature sensitive component during operation of the aircraft.
ADJUSTABLE MAGNETIC COUNTERBALANCE
A passive magnetic constant-force apparatus comprises a geometry and arrangement of permanent magnets, ferromagnetic components, and non-magnetic structural components. The apparatus is easily and precisely adjustable, cost-effective, with a high load capacity, and with minimal parasitic forces. The apparatus is suitable for use as a counterbalance for vertical linear motion applications and may be integrated with or attached to a linear motion stage.
DIRECTED SELF-ASSEMBLY OF ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS USING DIAMAGNETIC LEVITATION
Embodiments of the invention relate generally to directed self-assembly (DSA) and, more particularly, to the DSA of electronic components using diamagnetic levitation.
POP-UP FLOATING TYPE HOLOGRAM SYSTEM AND VEHICLE THEREOF
A pop-up floating type hologram system mounted on a vehicle a pop-up floating module in which a hologram video projected by a video player provided with a skin plate as a vehicle external skin is implemented by a 45° tilted cube of a transparent plate externally exposed through any one of a crush pad, an emblem, an air spoiler, and a mobile holder in a pyramid form or externally exposed through a roof in a reverse pyramid form by the movement by a repulsive force between an electromagnet forming an N pole and a permanent magnet facing the electromagnet as an N pole by a power source supply, hiding the pop-up floating type hologram system using the external skin upon non-operation.
Axial magnetic suspension
The present invention generally relates to an apparatus and method for axially supporting a shaft. In one aspect, a magnetic suspension system for supporting a shaft in a housing is provided. The magnetic suspension system includes an array of magnet members disposed between the shaft and the housing. The array of magnet members comprising a first magnet member, a second magnet member, and a third magnet member, wherein the first magnet member and the second magnet member generate a first force that is substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the shaft and the second magnet member and the third magnet member generate a second force that is substantially parallel with the longitudinal axis of the shaft The first force and the second force are configured to position the shaft axially within the housing. In another aspect, a method of supporting a shaft along a longitudinal axis of a housing is provided. In a further aspect, a suspension system for supporting a shaft in a housing is provided.
