ELECTRODE FOR POLYMER ELECTROLYTE MEMBRANE FUEL CELL COMPRISING ANTIOXIDANT AND MEMBRANE-ELECTRODE ASSEMBLY COMPRISING SAME
The present disclosure relates to antioxidant for a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell electrode catalyst, which includes cerium hydrogen phosphate (HCe.sub.2(PO.sub.4).sub.3(H.sub.2O)) in the form of a nanofiber, and an electrode and a membrane-electrode assembly including the same. The electrode for a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell of the present disclosure, wherein the antioxidant is dispersed, can improve the mechanical strength of an electrode catalyst layer and can minimize deterioration of chemical durability even after long-term operation. And, a fuel cell including the same can exhibit high output performance and can operate stably even after long-term operation.
Electrode catalyst layer and polymer electrolyte fuel cell
Provided are an electrode catalyst layer for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell, which is capable of improving drainage property and gas diffusion properties and capable of high output, and a polymer electrolyte fuel cell provided with the same. An electrode catalyst layer (2, 3) bonded to a polymer electrolyte membrane (1) includes a catalyst (13), carbon particles (14), a polymer electrolyte (15) and fibrous material (16), in which the electrode catalyst layer (2,3) has a density falling within a range of 500 mg/cm.sup.3 to 900 mg/cm.sup.3, or has a density falling within a range of 400 mg/cm.sup.3 to 1000 mg/cm.sup.3, and the mass of the polymer electrolyte (15) falls within a range of 10 mass % to 200 mass % with respect to the total mass of the carbon particles (14) and the fibrous material (16).
Fuel cell components protected with nitride materials
A fuel cell component including a fuel cell substrate and a nitride material. The material may be a nitride compound having a chemical formula A.sub.xB.sub.yN.sub.z, where A is a metal, B is a metal different than A, N is nitrogen, x>0, y<7 and 0<z<12. The nitride compound may have a ratio of a stoichiometric factor to a reactivity factor of greater than 1.0. The stoichiometric factor indicates the reactivity of a nitride compound with chemical species as compared to a baseline nitride compound. The reactivity factor indicates the reaction enthalpy of the nitride compound and the chemical species as compared to a baseline nitride compound and the chemical species. The nitride compound may be Fe.sub.3Mo.sub.3N, Ni.sub.2Mo.sub.3N, Ni.sub.2W.sub.3N, CuNi.sub.3N, Fe.sub.3WN, Zn.sub.3Nb.sub.3N, V.sub.3Zn.sub.2N or a combination thereof. The nitride compound may be Si.sub.6Y.sub.3N.sub.11, Ni.sub.2Mo.sub.4N, Fe.sub.3Mo.sub.5N.sub.6 or a combination thereof.
Metal-based solid oxide electrochemical devices
A solid oxide electrochemical device comprises a solid electrolyte layer, the first surface and second surface having surface pores formed therein; a first composite electrolyte layer composed of metal and a solid electrolyte and having a first porosity; a second composite electrolyte layer composed of metal and the solid electrolyte and having the first porosity, the solid electrolyte layer sandwiched between the first composite electrolyte layer and the second composite electrolyte layer; a cathode on one of the first composite electrolyte layer and the second composite electrolyte layer; and an anode on another of the first composite electrolyte layer and the second composite electrolyte layer. The anode comprises an anode metal layer comprising pores; anode active material; and reforming catalyst, wherein the anode active material and the reforming catalyst line walls of the pores in the anode metal layer.

A device for producing and/or storing electrical energy (2), characterized in that the device comprises: an anode (4), a cathode (6), a separator (8) allowing for the transfer of at least one compound capable of triggering and/or enabling a production and/or storage of electrical energy (8), arranged between the anode (4) and the cathode (6), and at least one breakable, pierceable, and/or deformable reservoir (10) made of a compound capable of triggering and/or enabling a production and/or a storage of electrical energy, said reservoir (10) having means for bringing said compound and said separator (8) into contact with each other; said means for bringing said compound and said separator (8) into contact with each other being, in particular, means for transferring a liquid.
METHOD OF COATING ONE OR MORE METAL COMPONENTS OF A FUEL CELL STACK, COMPONENT OF A FUEL CELL STACK AND APPARATUS FOR COATING ONE OR MORE COMPONENTS OF A FUEL CELL STACK
The present invention relates to a method of coating one or more metal components of a fuel cell stack, such as a bipolar plate, an electrode, gaskets etc., the method comprising the steps of providing an uncoated metal component; etching said uncoated metal component; optionally depositing an adhesion layer on the etched uncoated metal component; and depositing a carbon coating on either the adhesion layer or on the etched uncoated metal component, with the adhesion layer and the carbon coating respectively being deposited by means of one of a physical vapor deposition process, an arc ion plating process, a sputtering process, and a Hipims process. The invention further relates to a component of a fuel cell stack and to an apparatus for coating one or more components of a fuel cell stack.

The present invention relates to a method for producing a catalyst for an electrochemical cell, wherein: a graphited porous carbon material is treated with an oxygen-containing plasma or an aqueous medium containing an oxidising agent, at least one noble metal compound is deposited on the treated carbon material, the impregnated carbon material is brought into contact with a reducing agent such that the noble metal compound is reduced to a metallic noble metal.

A membrane-electrode assembly including a catalyst layer that includes a catalyst-supporting carrier in which a catalyst is supported on a carrier made of an inorganic oxide, and a highly hydrophobic substance having a higher degree of hydrophobicity than the inorganic oxide, the catalyst layer being formed on at least one surface of a polymer electrolyte membrane. It is preferable that, in the membrane-electrode assembly, the degree of hydrophobicity of the highly hydrophobic substance is from 0.5 vol % to 45 vol % at 25° C., the degree of hydrophobicity being defined as a concentration of methanol (vol %) when a light transmittance of a dispersion obtained by dispersing the highly hydrophobic substance in a mixed solution of water and methanol reaches 80%.

Disclosed are an antioxidant for a fuel cell having a high degree of dispersion and/or distribution and excellent antioxidant capability and a membrane-electrode assembly including the same. The antioxidant includes a metal oxide and a sulfur-containing organic compound, for example, an organic compound including a sulfinic acid anion group (R—SO.sub.2.sup.−), adsorbed on the metal oxide.
