Activated aluminum fuel
Aluminum can be used as a fuel source when reacted with water if its native surrounding oxide coating is penetrated with a gallium-based eutectic. When discrete aluminum objects are treated in a heated bath of eutectic, the eutectic penetrates the oxide coating. After the aluminum objects are treated, the aluminum objects can be reacted in a reactor to produce hydrogen which can, for example, react with oxygen in a fuel cell to produce electricity, for use in a variety of applications.
VALVE DEVICE AND SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING AIR FLOW OF FUEL CELL STACK
A valve device for controlling an air flow of a fuel cell stack includes: a housing connected to the fuel cell stack and including a plurality of manifolds formed therein; a disk rotatably provided in the housing to control the air flow of the fuel cell stack; and a central shaft provided at the center of the housing to rotate the disk.
FUEL RECIRCULATION IN A FUEL CELL DEVICE HAVING A PLURALITY OF FUEL CELL STACKS
A fuel cell device with a fuel tank which has a fuel supply line which is branched into fuel portion supply lines, having a plurality of fuel cell stacks which stacks each have, on the anode inlet side, a fuel connection which is respectively fluidically connected to one of the fuel portion supply lines. Exclusively one of the fuel cell stacks is connected on the anode outlet side to a fuel recirculation line. The flow guidance of the fuel recirculation line is selected in such a way that the fuel can be returned exclusively into the fuel cell stack connected to the fuel recirculation line. Furthermore, a method for operating the fuel cell device is provided.
HYDROGEN STORAGE MATERIALS AND PROCESSES FOR PREPARING SAME
The present invention relates to improved hydrogen storage materials and improved processes for their preparation. The hydrogen storage materials prepared by the processes described herein exhibit enhanced hydrogen storage capacity when used as hydrogen storage systems. The processes described herein may be undertaken on a commercial scale.
FUEL CELL SYSTEM
A fuel cell system includes a fuel cell unit having an air inlet, a fuel inlet and an electrical energy outlet and a fuel cell exhaust outlet and a turbo-compressor unit to convert air from an air supply to compressed inlet air for the fuel cell unit. The turbo-compressor unit comprising a turbine and a compressor connected to a common rotatable shaft. The system also includes means for obtaining conditioned air exhausted from an enclosed space and directing the conditioned exhaust air to the turbine of turbo-compressor unit such that the conditioned exhaust air is expanded by the turbine causing rotation of the shaft and corresponding rotation of the compressor, means for providing air from the air supply to the compressor to be compressed and output from the compressor unit and provided as compressed inlet air to the air inlet of the fuel cell unit.
Fuel cell vehicle
A fuel cell vehicle includes a travel prohibition control unit. In the case where a lid sensor detects an open state of a lid, the travel prohibition control unit performs travel prohibition control to prohibit travel of the fuel cell vehicle. In the case where the number of shift control operations has reached a release number within release time, the travel prohibition control unit releases the travel prohibition control, and in the case where the number of shift control operations has not reached the release number within the release time, the travel prohibition control unit continues the travel prohibition control. The release number is two or more.
FUEL CELL SYSTEMS AND METHOD
A fuel cell system including a fuel cell stack comprising at least one fuel cell and having an anode inlet, a cathode inlet, an anode off-gas outlet, a cathode off-gas outlet, and defining separate flow paths for flow of anode inlet gas, cathode inlet gas, anode off-gas and cathode off-gas. The fuel cell system further comprises a reformer for reforming a fuel to a reformate, the reformer comprising a reformer inlet for anode inlet gas, a reformer outlet for exhausting anode inlet gas, and a reformer heat exchanger. There is also provided a a pre-heater for heating cathode inlet gas, the cathode inlet gas pre-heater comprising a pre-heater inlet for cathode inlet gas, a pre-heater outlet for exhausting cathode inlet gas, and a pre-heater heat exchanger, and a heat source for providing heat source gas.
Air intake assembly for centrifugal blower system and fuel cell incorporating same
An air intake assembly for a centrifugal blower having a casing having an axial inlet and a radial outlet, an impeller disposed within the casing for drawing a gaseous medium at a first pressure into the axial inlet and expelling gaseous medium at a second higher pressure through the radial outlet, and a motor for driving the impeller, including an air intake assembly casing having an air inlet and an air outlet, the air outlet connectable to the axial inlet of the blower casing of the centrifugal blower, and a check valve mounted within the air intake assembly casing positioned to permit air flow from the air inlet through the air intake assembly casing to the air outlet and prevent air flow from the air outlet through the air intake assembly casing to the air inlet.
