A method and apparatus for sequence of event (SOE) data logging. In one embodiment, the method comprises continuously recording, at a power conditioner coupled to a power distribution line, data obtained by sampling a waveform of the power distribution line during a sampling window; analyzing, by the power conditioner, the data to determine whether an event has occurred; and based on the analysis, maintaining the data when it is determined that the event has occurred, and discarding the data when it is determined that the event has not occurred.

IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO DIRECT CURRENT DISTANCE PROTECTION CONTROLLERS

A DC distance protection controller for identifying a fault within a protection zone that extends between a first terminal and a set point along a DC power transmission conduit which lies between the first terminal and a second terminal within a DC electrical power network. The protection controller periodically obtains as respective sampled pairs a measured voltage value and a measured current value of the DC power transmission conduit; isolates a fault component voltage value and a fault component current value to define a respective corresponding isolated pair; calculates from each isolated pair a fault component operating voltage of the DC power transmission conduit at the set point; compare a given calculated fault component operating voltage with a historical voltage value; and identifies a fault within the protection zone when the given calculated fault component operating voltage is greater than the historical voltage value.

The present disclosure provides systems and methods for generating a system-wide event report for electrical power delivery systems. A monitoring device within the power system may generate a key message upon the occurrence of a predetermined condition. A master IED within the power system may generate and/or transmit a system-wide key message to a plurality of monitoring IEDs within the power system. Digital process bus data, continuously recorded by a plurality of monitoring IEDs within the power system, may be saved locally by each monitoring IED within the power system and retrieved by a master IED within the power system. Alternatively, digital process bus data may be transmitted to a master IED and saved locally. A software and/or hardware module may be used to merge the local reports into a system-wide event report.

Capture of power quality information at the time a device fails

An apparatus for detecting an abnormal event and capturing associated waveforms includes a detection module within a power control device that detects an abnormal condition. The abnormal condition is indicative of an impending failure of the power control device and/or a condition within the power control device indicative of a parameter being outside of a specified limit. The power control device controls power to one or more power devices in a power distribution system. The apparatus includes a signal transmit module that transmits a capture signal to a transient capture meter. The transient capture meter meters transient conditions of a branch of the power distribution system that includes the power control device. The capture signal instructs the transient capture meter to capture current and/or voltage waveforms relevant to a time when the detection module detected the abnormal condition.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR OVERCURRENT PROTECTION USING DYNAMIC TRIP CURVE EVALUATION

An intelligent circuit breaker system and method for managing overcurrent conditions includes a current sensor configured to measure electrical current applied to a power line load, a memory storing trip curve data, and a processor configured to evaluate the measured current against a pre-established threshold. Upon detecting an overcurrent condition, the processor starts a timer, evaluates the duration of the overcurrent against the trip curve, and disconnects the load when specified conditions are met. The system can dynamically adjust threshold values based on environmental factors, log operational data, and select appropriate trip curves for specific load types. A user interface provides real-time feedback on current values, timer status, and load disconnection events. Additionally, the system can automatically reset and reconnect the load upon return to safe operating conditions. The functionality is further embodied in a method and as computer-readable instructions for execution by a processor, providing a robust, adaptable, and efficient solution for modern overcurrent protection.
