Faster charging of a battery, including: opening a first switch disposed between an input node of the battery and an input node of a load to decouple the input node of the battery from the input node of the load; and charging the battery using a first charging source coupled to the input node of the battery while the load is being powered through the input node of the load via a second charging source having a charge rate slower than the first charging source.

Acoustic wave based dendrite prevention for rechargeable batteries

A dendrite resistant battery may include a first electrode, a second electrode, and an electrolyte interposed between the first electrode and the second electrode. The dendrite resistant battery may further include at least one acoustic wave device configured to generate a plurality of acoustic waves during a charging of the battery. The charging of the battery may trigger cations from the first electrode to travel through the electrolyte and deposit on the second electrode. The plurality of acoustic waves may agitate the electrolyte to at least homogenize a distribution of cations in the electrolyte. The homogenization of the distribution of cations may prevent a formation of dendrites on the second electrode by at least increasing a uniformity of the deposit of cations on the second electrode. Related methods and systems for battery management are also provided.

A control apparatus (1) includes a charge controller that, by using power when a lead-acid battery (3) or a lead-acid battery module (4) including a plurality of lead-acid batteries is discharged, performs refresh charge of another lead-acid battery (3) or another lead-acid battery module (4).

UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY DEVICE

An uninterruptible power supply device (UPS) for feeding a load device when power supply thereto is shut down. The UPS has battery packs, a charge and discharge circuit configured to charge and discharge the battery packs, a regulating discharge circuit including a resistance, and a control unit. When the battery pack is charged to a dischargeable upper limit voltage of the load device, the control device shifts the battery pack to a discharge inhibition condition. In the discharge inhibition condition, the battery pack is continuously charged to full capacity and prevented from being discharged to the load device. When the battery voltage is reduce to the upper limit voltage after being fully charged, the control unit allows the battery pack to discharge the load device.

SYSTEM FOR CYCLING BATTERY CELLS WITH PRESSURE REGULATION

A system for cycling battery cells with pressure regulation is disclosed. The system comprises supports for receiving the battery cells which insert in a clamping arrangement having jaws moving one with respect to the other by an actuator operated by a controller in order to apply a pressure in a pressure application axis to the cells. A pressure sensor measures the pressure applied to the cells while a cycling module connected to the cells performs their cycling and measures their charge and discharge level. A programmable processing unit ensures a control of the pressure and, if desired, the temperature applied to the cells according to a programmed cycling mode and records data representative of the pressure and other cycling measurements.

Dual zone discharge of rechargeable batteries

The technology described in this document can be embodied in a method of using a silver-zinc rechargeable battery to power a device. The method includes drawing, in a first mode of operation of a power management circuit, a first current from the battery to power the device. The first current is selected such that a target percentage of a capacity of the battery is discharged in a predetermined time of use of the device. The method also includes switching to a second mode of operation after the target percentage of the capacity of the battery is discharged. In the second mode of operation, a second current is drawn from the battery, wherein the second current is less than the first current. The method further includes powering the device using the second current.

To provide a power storage device control apparatus, a power storage device control system, and a power storage device control method that can increase the available power storage capacity (battery capacity) of a deteriorated power storage device such as a secondary battery without causing further deterioration of the power storage device. A battery control apparatus of an embodiment includes a controller. The controller lowers a lower limit voltage of discharge of a power storage device to a value in a range where a positive electrode potential of the power storage device is more than a first threshold or to a value in a range where a negative electrode potential of the power storage device is less than a second threshold, based on a deterioration state of the power storage device.
