Analog and digital communication system for interfacing plain old telephone service devices with a network
10986555 · 2021-04-20 · ·

An analog and digital communication system establishes a connection between a plain old telephone service (POTS) device and a destination device. The system includes a customer appliance that includes multiple ports, an internal power source device, a subscriber identification module (SIM) card, an electronic control unit, an analog to digital convertor, and a processor device. At least one of the ports are operably connected to the POTS device. A controller communicates remotely with the customer appliance via the network to provide routing of the telephone call between the POTS device and the destination device. The controller is configured to at least one of transmit the telephone call or receive the telephone call via a closest public switched telephone network (PSTN) handoff or via an internal customer appliance network establishing a connection between the customer appliance and a second customer appliance.

Cascaded distribution point unit architecture for an adaptive network access system

A system includes a first distribution point unit comprising a first backhaul interface coupled to an access network via a backhaul connection, a first distribution interface coupled to a downstream distribution point unit, one or more first drop cable interfaces coupled to at least one first customer premises via at least one first drop cable, and a first reverse power section. The system further includes a second distribution point unit communicatively coupled to the first distribution point unit, the second distribution point unit comprising a second backhaul interface coupled to the first distribution interface of the first distribution point unit, a second distribution interface configured to be coupled to a subsequent downstream distribution point unit, one or more second drop cable interfaces coupled to at least one second customer premises via at least one second drop cable, and a second reverse power section.

Directional wireless drop systems for broadband networks and related methods

Directional wireless drop systems are provided. These systems include a tap unit that is connected to a communications line of the broadband network; a cable modem unit connected to the tap unit; a plurality of wireless routers connected to the cable modem unit; and a directional antenna unit that is connected to at least a first of the wireless routers. Each wireless router is associated with a respective one of a plurality of subscriber premises that are served by the directional wireless drop system and is configured to communicate with at least one device that is located at the respective one of plurality of subscriber premises.

A method and system for managing performance of over a multimedia content distribution network (MCDN), such as a digital subscriber line network, involves receiving an indication of an impairment in network performance from an MCDN client. The MCDN node associated with the client may be identified and a community of MCDN clients coupled to the MCDN node may be further identified. Impairment information, representative of MCDN equipment, may be collected for each of the MCDN clients. Detailed network diagnostics and field service may be performed for MCDN clients based on a characterization of the impairment parameters. After remediation of the MCDN node, collection of the impairment information may be terminated.
