Systems and techniques are provided to transmit data over a digital interface between a sender and a receiver. The digital interface is configured for transmitting a primary type of data as opposed to a secondary type of data. Nevertheless, systems and techniques are provided where the secondary type of data can be transmitted in the digital interface. As such, the primary and/or secondary types of data are transmitted from the sender to the receiver via the digital interface. The primary and secondary types of data may be different and/or unrelated and could be any type of data including, but not limited to, audio data, general data, and bulk data. Yet, the received primary and secondary types of data are still useful after the transmission.

A method comprises, at a hybrid radio receiver configured to recover audio content separately from a broadcast radio signal and from a wireless network connection, receiving a reception metric that indicates audio quality of the audio content in the broadcast radio signal at any given time. The method further comprises, deriving, from fluctuations of the reception metric over time, fluctuation indicators that indicate audio quality fluctuations that are likely noticeable to a listener. The method further comprises deriving a switching decision to use the broadcast radio signal or the wireless network connection as a source of the audio content based on a previous switching decision and the fluctuation indicators to introduce hysteresis into the switching decision, and selecting the broadcast radio signal or the wireless network connection as the source of the audio content based on the switching decision.
SYSTEM AND METHOD TO SYNCHRONIZE RENDERING OF MULTI-CHANNEL AUDIO TO VIDEO PRESENTATION
A system and method are provided for an AV device for use with a video player, one or more speakers, and encoded AV data. The encoded AV data includes multiplexed encoded video data and encoded audio data. The AV device is connected to the speakers via wireless channels. The AV device is able to determine channel delays associated with each wireless channel; synchronize program clocks of the video player and speakers; determine and modify buffer levels of each speaker; demultiplex the encoded AV data to obtain encode video data and encoded audio data; and provide prefetched portions of encoded audio data based on buffer levels.

Timely Addition of Human-Perceptible Audio to Mask an Audio Watermark
A method and system for adding overtly human-perceptible supplemental audio content into a media stream to help mask audio effects of an audio watermark in the media stream. A method involves receiving a media stream that defines a sequence of audio content presentable by a content presentation device, modifying the media stream to produce a modified media stream that defines the sequence of audio content, and outputting the modified media stream for presentation by the content presentation device. The modified media stream includes an audio watermark that is machine-detectable to trigger an interactive event. Further, the act of modifying the media stream involves adding into the media stream supplemental audio content coincident with the audio watermark, to help mask the audio watermark in the modified media stream during presentation of the modified media stream by the content presentation device.
