SIZE-BASED DETECTION AND QUANTIFICATION OF FUNCTIONAL BIO-NANOPARTICLES
Sized-based detection techniques for detection of bio-nanoparticles are described. Detection nanoparticles and methods of forming the detection nanoparticles that can be utilized in the techniques are described. Detection nanoparticles can include modified bacteriophage that express a linking agent for a specific binding agent. Detection nanoparticles can bind a functional bio-nanoparticle with high specificity through specific binding of one or more entities unique to the functional bio-nanoparticle of interest. A detection nanoparticle can target an entity of a bio-nanoparticle that is relevant to its function, and as such, the methods can provide improvements in detection of complete and functional bio-nanoparticles. Size-based detection regimes can include particle displacement measurement techniques based upon Brownian motion.
BREAST MILK-DERIVED LACTOBACILLUS PLANTARUM AND USE THEREOF
Provided are a breast milk-derived Lactobacillus plantarum and use thereof. The breast milk-derived Lactobacillus plantarum, which was screened from healthy breast milk, is classified and named as Lactobacillus plantarum and has an accession number of CGMCC NO.19748. It has strong adhesion, has an inhibitory effect on 8 commonly known pathogenic bacteria, and is susceptible to 8 antibiotics, and also has strong acid resistance and bile salt resistance.
TLR2 MODULATOR COMPOUNDS, PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS AND USES THEREOF
The present disclosure relates to compounds which modulate the activity of Toll-like receptor (TLR) proteins, including agonists or activators, partial agonists, and antagonists. Of particular interest of compounds that modulate the activity of TLR2, as well as methods of using such compounds to treat cancer and other disorders associated with a TLR2 pathway.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PUPAE SEPARATION
The present invention relates to devices and methods for separation of non-adult insects, such as pupae or larvae, according to sexual dimorphisms or developmental stages that can affect their size.
SYNERGISTIC ACTIVITY OF NOVEL COMPOUNDS AGAINST PLANKTONIC AND BIOFILM CELLS OF CLINICALLY RELEVANT PATHOGENS
The present disclosure provides compositions, methods of preparing, and method of use of a composition comprising: (a) about 0.05 wt % to about 10.0 wt % ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, a salt thereof, a chelating agent, or a combination thereof; (b) from about 2.0 wt % to 50.0 wt % ethanol (ET), isopropyl alcohol (IPA), or a combination thereof; and (c) from about 0.015 μg/mL to about 100.0 μg/mL chlorhexidine, a salt thereof, or a combination thereof. These compositions, as disclosed herein, eliminate greater the 95% of planktonic or biofilm cells from a central venous access device.
VENTILATED TOILET
A ventilated toilet includes a bowl with a rim including a rim conduit with a plurality of flush apertures that open to the bowl. A drain conduit communicates with a waste outlet of the bowl and includes a stack outlet for communicating with an associated waste stack. A trap is located in the drain conduit between the waste outlet of the bowl and the stack outlet of the drain conduit for containing liquid that blocks airflow through said drain conduit. A neck is located adjacent the rim of the bowl and includes a neck conduit in communication with the rim conduit. A water tank is connected to the neck and includes an internal space for holding water that is in communication with the neck conduit. A lid covers an open upper end of the tank. A flush valve is located in the tank and selectively opens to allow flow of water from the internal space of the tank to the neck conduit. An overflow tube is in communication with the neck conduit and includes an open upper end that is located above a water level of the internal space of the tank. An exhaust blower includes a blower inlet and a blower outlet. A blower inlet conduit connects the blower inlet to the internal space of said tank, and the blower inlet conduit includes an open upper end that is located above the water level such that the open upper end of the blower conduit is spaced-apart from the open upper end of the overflow tube. The blower outlet is in communication with the drain conduit downstream from the trap between the trap and the stack outlet. A check valve is located between the blower outlet and the drain conduit for preventing odorous air from flowing upstream into the blower outlet, wherein said check valve is adapted to selectively open when said exhaust blower is activated.
ANTIMICROBIAL COMPOSITION CONTAINING WASP EXTRACT AS ACTIVE INGREDIENT
An antimicrobial composition containing a wasp extract, and more particularly, a broad-spectrum antimicrobial composition containing, as an active ingredient, an ethyl acetate fraction recovered by sequential organic solvent fraction of an ethanol extract of Vespa velutina nigrithorax or Vespa simillima simillima Smith. The Vespa velutina nigrithorax extract or the V. simillima simillima Smith extract exhibits excellent broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacterial and fungi, and thus may be used for pharmaceutical compositions, health functional foods, cosmetic compositions, animal feed compositions, additives for food, cosmetics or animal feed, various detergents and various cleansers. In addition, the extract has excellent heat stability, and does not lose its activity even under an acidic condition of pH 2.
QUANTUM DOTS HAVING ACTIVITY OF KILLING MULTIDRUG-RESISTANT BACTERIA (MDR) AND USES THEREOF
Disclosed are inorganic nanoparticle quantum dots that effectively kill Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria resistant to antibiotics and the treatment of infectious bacterial diseases using the same, and more particularly inorganic nanoparticle quantum dots introduced with a hydrophilic ligand having activity of killing multidrug-resistant bacteria (MDR) and the use thereof. The quantum dots are capable of effectively killing bacteria when used at a low concentration by optimizing the core bandgap thereof and also do not exhibit cytotoxicity, and are thus useful as an agent for preventing or treating infectious diseases caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria.
PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF
A composition and method directed to the treatment of bacterial infections is provided.
