The first visually discernable zone has a pattern of three-dimensional features on a first surface or a second surface. At least some of the three-dimensional features define a microzone having a first region and a second region. The first region and the second region have a difference in value for an intensive property. The second visually discernable zone defines apertures. The apertures have an Effective Aperture Area in a range of about 0.3 mm.sup.2 to about 15 mm.sup.2.

A nonwoven web for use in an absorbent article is described. The nonwoven web has first and second nonwoven layers. The first nonwoven layer has a first plurality of fibers, an additive disposed, at least in part, on a portion of the first plurality of fibers, a first side and an opposing second side, wherein second side has a plurality of discontinuities. The second nonwoven layer has a second plurality of fibers, a first surface and an opposing second surface, and a plurality of tufts extending through at least a portion of the discontinuities in the first nonwoven layer, wherein the second nonwoven layer is attached to the first nonwoven layer such that at least a portion of the second plurality of fibers are in liquid communication with the first nonwoven layer, wherein the first nonwoven layer is hydrophobic and the second nonwoven layer is hydrophilic.

Provided is a spunbound nonwoven fabric for use in filters which has excellent rigidty, folding endurance, and uniformity of a weight a unit area, and which also has dust collection perforance and mechanical properties. The spunbond nonwoven fabric for use in filters includes a thermoplastic continuous filament and has a partially fused portion. The nonwoven fabric has a stiffness of 2 mN or more and 100 mN or less, a weight per unit area-CV value 5% or less, and a weight per unit area of 150 g/m.sup.2 more and 300 g/m.sup.2 or less.

Method of manufacturing an activated composite web and an activated composite web for absorptive devices

A method of manufacturing an activated composite web includes laminating a film layer to a nonwoven web to form a composite web, forming a plurality of apertured protuberances in the film layer, and passing the composite web through intermeshing elements to form an activated composite web. The intermeshing elements form a plurality of first lanes, with first widths, substantially unaffected by activation, and a plurality of second lanes, with second widths. The second widths are less than the first widths. Portions of the plurality of apertured protuberances define first apertures in the first lanes and second apertures in the second lanes. The cross-sections of the second apertures are larger than the first apertures. The first apertures have their major axes substantially aligned in the first direction while the second apertures have their major axis substantially aligned in the second direction. An activated composite web also is provided.

Fibers and Nonwovens Including a Propylene Random Copolymer, and Processes for Producing the Fibers and Nonwovens

Fibers can include a polypropylene composition, which can include a metallocene random copolymer of propylene and a comonomer that is an alpha-olefin different from propylene. The metallocene random copolymer can have a comonomer content of from 1.2 wt % to 1.8 wt %, a molecular weight distribution of at least 1.0 and of at most 4.0 obtained without thermal or chemical degradation, and a melting temperature T.sub.melt of at most 140 C. A nonwoven can include the fibers, and a laminate can include the nonwoven. The fibers can be produced by polymerizing the propylene and comonomer in presence of a metallocene-based polymerization catalyst to obtain the metallocene random copolymer. The polypropylene composition can be melt-extruded to obtain a molten polypropylene stream, which can be extruded from capillaries of a spinneret to obtain filaments. A diameter of the filaments can be rapidly reduced to obtain a final diameter.
