DECORATIVE PORTABLE POWER CHARGER

Abstract

A compact, decorative and multi-functional portable power charger and cable apparatus includes a portable charger unit with a housing where the housing encloses an internal rechargeable battery unit for connecting to and recharging one or more electronic devices, and a charging cable extending from the charger housing and in operative communication with the rechargeable battery. At least the charger housing is surrounded by an aesthetic feature, which can comprise a tasseled fitting, a puffball, a luggage tag, or a doll or teddy bear to hide the charger unit. Electrical fittings including power connection interfaces for connecting the charger and cable apparatus with at least one electronic device, or an external power source, or both, can be provided on the charging cable and also hidden by the aesthetic feature. The power charger and cable apparatus can be attached to a fashion accessory, such as a purse, a bag, luggage or clothing.

Claims

1. A portable power charger and cable apparatus comprising: a power charger comprising: a charger housing; and a rechargeable battery internally disposed within the charger housing; a charging cable attached to the charger housing and in operative communication with the rechargeable battery, said charging cable having having a first electrical fitting at a first end and a second electrical fitting at a second end; and an aesthetic element surrounding at least the charger housing.

2. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the aesthetic element comprises at least one tasseled fitting surrounding at least the charger housing.

The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the aesthetic element comprises a first tasseled fitting and a second tasseled fitting each attached to the charging cable at a respective one of the first and second end thereof, wherein the first tasseled fitting surrounds the charger housing and the first electrical fitting and the second tasseled fitting surround the second electrical fitting.

The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 3, wherein at least one of the first and second tasseled fittings is movable between a concealing condition in which said tasseled fitting covers one of the first and second electrical fittings, and a revealing condition in which said tasseled fitting does not cover the respective first or second electrical fitting.

5. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said at least one tasseled fitting is movable between the concealing condition and the revealing condition by sliding the tasseled fitting along the charging cable.

6. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising a flashlight feature operatively connected to the rechargeable battery for providing light.

7. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the aesthetic feature comprises a puffball surrounding at least the charger housing.

8. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the aesthetic feature comprises a luggage tag surrounding at least the charger housing.

9. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the aesthetic feature comprises one of a doll, a figure or a teddy bear surrounding at least the charger housing.

10. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 1 wherein one of the first and second electrical fittings is a squid fitting that provides more that one type of power connection interface.

11. A portable power charger and cable apparatus comprising: a charger unit having a charger housing defining a proximal and distal end, and a rechargeable battery internally disposed within the charger housing; a connector extending from the proximal end of the charger housing for connecting the charger unit to a fashion accessory by way of an attachment means; a cable extending from the distal end of the charger housing and in operative communication with the rechargeable battery, said cable having a power connection interface on the end thereof; and an aesthetic feature surrounding at least the charger unit and from which the power connection interface can project.

12. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 11, wherein the aesthetic feature comprises a tasseled fitting surrounding at least the charger housing.

13. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 11, wherein the aesthetic feature comprises a puffball surrounding at least the charger housing.

14. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 11, wherein the aesthetic feature comprises a luggage tag surrounding at least the charger housing.

15. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 14, wherein the luggage tag includes a pocket and a flap capable of enclosing the charger housing and the cable within the luggage tag when the flap is in a closed position; and wherein the power connection interface is accessible from the pocket when the flap is in an open position.

16. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 11, wherein the aesthetic feature comprises one of a doll, a figure or a teddy bear surrounding at least the charger housing.

17. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 11, further comprising a flashlight feature disposed on the distal end of the charger housing.

18. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 11 wherein the cable can be pulled outwardly from the charger housing for use and retracted towards the charger housing when not in use thereafter.

19. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 11, further comprising a second cable extending from the proximal end of the charger housing and in operative communication with the rechargeable battery, said second cable having a second power connection interface on the end thereof.

20. The portable power charger and cable apparatus according to claim 19 wherein each of the cables can be pulled outwardly from the charger housing for use and retracted towards the charger housing when not in use thereafter.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0029] The present invention is generally directed to a portable power charger and cable apparatus 10 provides a means for attaching a portable power charger to a fashion accessory 12, such as a handbag, luggage, clothing or the like, and essentially making the portable power charger an aesthetic fashion accessory itself. Referring to FIG. 1, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the power charger and cable apparatus 10 includes a cable 14 that has tasseled fittings 18 mounted on each end thereof so that the apparatus 10 looks to the public like a fashion accessory on the user's purse 12.

[0030] The cable 14 includes a first end and a second end, illustrated in a partial cut-away view in FIG. 2, with an electrical fitting, such as a power connection interface, provided on each of said ends. Each tasseled fitting 18 is designed to hide the portable power charger, and preferably the electrical fittings as well (at least when not in use). Accordingly, a tasseled fitting 18, as shown, may comprise a cap 20 as well as tassel strips 22 made of leather, fabric or plastic in a variety of colors, textures, patterns, and sizes to create and aesthetic fashion element. Alternatively, the fittings 18 may be provided only with the tassel strips 22, with the caps 20 being optional.

[0031] Referring to FIGS. 4 and 5, the illustrated embodiment includes sliding caps 20. That is, the caps 20 can be slid along the cable 14 to expose portions of the portable power charger 32 and/or the electrical fittings 30 for use. By sliding the caps 20 and exposing at least the power connection interfaces of the electrical fittings 30, the charger device 32 can be connected to electronic devices in need of a recharge from a rechargeable battery internally disposed in the charger 32, or an external power source in order to recharge the internal battery of the charger 32 itself. As noted and shown, when the charger 32 is not in use, it can be hidden by the aesthetic component of the tasseled fittings 18, and when attached to a purse 12, as shown in FIG. 1, people may not be aware that the apparatus 10 is anything but a tasseled accessory added to the purse 12 as a decoration.

[0032] The cable 14 can be covered with a decorative sleeve that can be stitched or braided leather, fabric or plastic, much like the materials of the tassel strips 22 with an attractive appearance, complementary to the fashion accessory 12. The tassels 22 may be of the same material, color and general design as the decorative sleeve, or differing material, color or general design. The caps 20 may be fabricated of metal, wood, or plastic, or of the same material as the decorative sleeve. The caps 20 further include a ring 23 which can be fabricated from, for example, metal, for providing a cylindrical distribution and appearance of the tasseled fittings 18.

[0033] In FIG. 1, the power charger and cable apparatus 10 is shown as being looped around a handle 24 of the fashion accessory 12. However, the power charger and cable apparatus 10 equally can be looped through a zipper pull or a belt loop, wrapped around a user's wrist, tied around a backpack strap, or the like, or connected by known attachment means, including but not limited to via a clip, carabineer, strap, hook-and-loop fasteners, magnets, or the like. In FIG. 1, a loop is shown to attach the apparatus 10 to a purse 12. In FIGS. 3-5, a magnetic connector is provided for attaching the cable 14 to itself after it is looped around something, such as a purse strap. In FIGS. 6-7, a carabineer is provided to attach the apparatus 10 to a fashion accessory.

[0034] Referring to FIG. 2, which provides a partial cutaway view of the power charger and cable apparatus 10 without tassels 22, the charger cable 14 has electrical fittings 30 at each end thereof. As shown, the cable 14 essentially passes through a charger unit 32. However, the cable 14 need not be constructed of a single cable. Instead, as shown, the cable 14 can comprise a first cable portion and a second cable portion, each connected to and extending away from a charger housing 34. One of the cable portions can act as a power input for recharging the internal battery of the charger 32 when that end of the cable 14 is connected to an external power source. The other of the cable portions can act as a power output for recharging electronic devices from the charger 32 when that opposing end is connected to such electronic devices. For illustration purposes in FIG. 2, the left side of the cable acts as a power output, while the right side (closer to the charger unit 32) acts as a power input.

[0035] The electrical fittings 30 may be male power connection interfaces such as USB or micro-USB, Apple Lightning or 30-pin, DC plug, or the like. Alternatively, one of the electrical fittings 30 may be a 2-in-1 connection or a “squid” fitting that provides more than one type of connection interface. As shown in FIG. 2, the power output portion of the cable 14, includes a 2-in-1 connection, with two male connection interfaces, in accordance with designs known in the art. Also, either or both of the electrical fittings 30 may include a female power connection interface, e.g., a female USB port or a female DC port/socket. Still further, one or both ends can be adapted to interact with modular and interchangeable adapter tips so that the connection interfaces can be changed or adapted to work with connection ports of varying designs so as to be usable with many types of portable electronic devices, power sources, or adaptors.

The inclusion of such a flashlight feature 40 improves the functionality of the portable power charger and cable apparatus 10, and allows it to be used as both a charger and a light, all packaged together in an aesthetic design that is readily accessible to the user by way of its connection to the outside of a purse, luggage or clothing.

A power charger and cable apparatus 10 utilizing two puffballs 72 in addition to or as an alternative to the tassels 22 (described in FIGS. 1-5) is also contemplated by the present invention.
