[0017] The various embodiments of the present invention will hereinafter be described in conjunction with the appended drawings, wherein like designations denote like elements.

    DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0018] As discussed above, embodiments of the present disclosure relate to sanitizing containers and more particularly to a portable sanitizing container as used to improve the public health by sanitizing commonly-used and commonly-shared utensils such as pens, markers, rulers, scissors, and the like.

[0019] Generally, the portable sanitizing container provides convenient means to destroy the presence of illness-causing pathogens on commonly-used items shared by multiple users. In a primary embodiment, the portable sanitizing container includes an oval container and within that container is a liquid disinfectant and a sponge. The sponge features intersecting slits through its lengthwise center. The oval container is preferably ergonomic-shaped for easy gripping and strategic areas of the container are indented and feature a textured surface to enhance user grip. The top of the container features a removable cap with an oval, slightly subset aperture. A pliable, resilient rubber flap covers this aperture. The rubber flap features intersecting slits that are in alignment with the slits of the sponge. The rubber flap functions as a squeegee to remove access disinfectant from the utensil when said utensil is pulled out of the container. The portable sanitizing container may be made in various sizes and shapes, including specific dimensions for use with specific items. The primary embodiment of portable sanitizing container can be made in individual-use sizes.

[0020] A second embodiment is also disclosed including a smaller, portable sanitizing container that features two working ends. One end will allow for the insertion of writing instruments such as styluses and ink pens. This end features a small rubber gasket that operates like a squeegee. The opposing end comprises a second-sponge to sanitize items that cannot be inserted into the container such as credit cards, ATM buttons, doorknobs and phones. Each end will feature a removable cap. The portable sanitizing container features a slightly pliable body. As a user squeezes the body, disinfectant will saturate the second-sponge.

[0021] The portable sanitizing container can be made with various liquid disinfectant solutions, such as but not limited to ethyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol, and in various concentrations that are effective for intended purpose. The portable sanitizing container may include various other disinfectant substances in its solution, such as but not limited to hydrogen peroxide. The portable sanitizing container may include various other materials in its solution, such as but not limited to glycerol and glycerin, and for various other purposes, such as to prevent evaporation of its alcohol base. Additionally, the portable sanitizing container may be produced in scented variations.

[0022] In other variations, the portable sanitizing container may include a caddy, bracket and/or holder used to securely mount the container upon a desk, wall, countertop and/or other surface area. The lid of the portable sanitizing container may include one (1) or more apertures and said apertures may be used to accommodate the specific shape and/or size of various utensils and other implements. The portable sanitizing container may be produced in variation as an integral feature of and/or an attachment to credit card terminals and like devices, and in which the signing stylus is stored in the container to maintain its sanitary status between users.

[0023] A method of use is as follows: a user can simply flip open the lid of portable sanitizing container and insert an item within its slotted aperture. That item will contact the sanitizing disinfectant solution upon the interior sponge and said solution will destroy any pathogens upon contact. The inserted item may then be removed. Upon removal, any residual solution clinging to the inserted item will contact the rubber flaps of the slotted aperture, returning that residual solution to the interior sponge. The user may then use the inserted item without risk of or concern about, acquiring or distributing any illness-causing pathogens. Additional sanitizing disinfectant solution may be applied to the interior sponge as needed.

[0024] Referring now more specifically to the drawings by numerals of reference, there is shown in FIGS. 1-5, various views of a portable sanitizing container 100. The portable sanitizing container 100 destroys germs of transmittable, illness-causing viruses, including but not limited to influenza, hepatitis A, and corona virus diseases, such as but not limited to COVID-19.

[0025] FIG. 1 shows a portable sanitizing container 100 during an ‘in-use’ condition, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. [0028] FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the portable sanitizing container 100 of FIG. 1, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The container 110 of the portable sanitizing container 100 may comprise an approximate six and one-half inch (6½″) height, six-inch (6″) length and a four-inch (4″) width. Items 10 inserted within the portable sanitizing container 100 make contact with the liquid disinfectant and the elongated sponge 124 to ensure they are thoroughly cleaned. The liquid disinfectant kills pathogens and the elongated sponge 124 ensures the entire item 10 is covered and scrubbed. The elongated sponge 124 may include a synthetic cellulose sponge material or other suitable absorbent material. The liquid disinfectant may comprise an ethyl alcohol for seventy percent (70%) of its solution. The remaining portion of the liquid disinfectant may include glycerol and distilled water. The liquid disinfectant may be reapplied to the elongated sponge of portable sanitizing container 100 as needed.

[0029] FIG. 5 is a perspective view of a second embodiment of the portable sanitizing container 100 of FIG. 1, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
